Union High School Knocks Paden City to 0-5

Hundred shoots one over Paden City

Visiting Union High School invaded Paden City high on Saturday, December 18, and made the long journey home a short one as they uphended the Wildcats 54-30.

The Wildcats were led by junior McKenzie Thomas who poured in 13 points including two baskets from beyond the 3-point line. She also had five rebounds, four blocks and a steal and went 3/4 from the free throw line. She was aided by up and coming freshman Alexi Mathis who also canned 13 points including a 3-pointer, while grabbing four boards and adding a steal. Jocelyn Sawinski and Jordan Rose each added two points.

Union was led by a trio of double figure scorers with Bridgette Knapp taking game hobnors with 17. Hayley Whiteacre added 12 and Olivia Bombay hit for 10.

Cats fall to Wood County Christian 50-30

Paden City traveled to Williamstown on Saturday, December 11, for a matchup with the Wildcats of Wood County Christian. In the battle of Wildcats the home team dominated from the beginning taking an early first quarter lead of 17- 6 while crusing out to a 32-17 halftime lead.

Paden City had the games high scorer on the day as McKenzie Thomas lit up the score board with 24 markers including four three pointers and a 2-4 showing from the free throw line. She shot 9-14 from the floor. However it wasn’t enough as freshman Lexi Mathis was the only help she got scoring the other six team points.

Wood County however had three double digit scorers with Ava Dunn hitting for 17, Shelia Dunn 14, and Sophie Daugherly scoring 10. The loss droped Paden City to 0-4 on the season.

Wildcat fall to 0-3 with loss to Hundred

Hundred picked up a big win on Thursday night in Paden City as the Hornets stung the Wildcats 46-29 to send the young Cats to 0-3 on the season.

Paden City was led by freshman Lexi Mathis who hit for 10 points and hauled in eight boards. She was backed by junior McKenzie Thomas with seven points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Jocelyn Sawinski added six markers, three rebounds and a steal, while Haley Walton hit four four points and pulled down three rebounds.

Wildcat coach Josh Fulks added his team only shot 8-46 from the floor. “We have to keep working on fundamentals and improve each a game and practice,” said coach Fulks.

No stats were available from the Hornets.
