Marietta Tigers Turn-back Lady Pilots, 66-52
The Ohio Division-2 girls basketball power Marietta Tigers raced out to a 10-0 run in the opening two-minutes of the game, and held off a determined River Pilots squad to even their record at 1-1 Dec. 9 with a 66-52 victory inside R.L.Potts Gymnasium.
After falling behind early, the Lady Pilots sliced the Lady Tigers lead down to 18-13 by end of the first period, however Marietta stretched their lead up to nine (35-26) going into the locker-room.
River scored the first 4-points in the second half to pull to within four (35-30), but the powerful Tigers who start four seniors to one for the Pilots took it right to River and was on top, 53-37 with 8-minutes remaining.
River was able to close to withing 11-points twice, but didn’t have enough in the tank as the Pilots only have 8-players on the squad with one out to an injury.
River freshman Kelsey Harlan was a bright spot for Rick Isaly Lady Pilots stuffing the stat-sheet with a team high 25-points, 6-rebounds, 3-assists and 2-steals, while junior sharp-shooter Kylie Piatt scored 14-points, including a pair of long distance bombs and grabbed 3-rebounds.
The Pilots senior Emily Smith scored two points, while pulling down a team-high 10-rebounds, and adding wo assists and just as many blocked shots. The Pilots sophomore Rylee Knight recorded 7-rebounds, and made 2-steals.Pfalzgraph
In addition, Hannah Raper tallied 5-points and 2-steals, while Tessa Priem and Karson. and Tessa Prim each scoring a deuce.
Due to the Covid-19 virus the Lady Pilots next 2-games against Bridgeport and Frontier are post-pond, and their next game will play played at Martins Ferry on December 19 at 6:30 p.m,
