Lady Pilots Take-out Silver Knights and Seminoles

The River Pilots’ Candace Caldwell had a night to remember March 31 in Sardis as she had eight RBIs on six hits, including a three-run home-run and a double in a double-header sweep of Tyler Consolidated and Monroe Central.In the opener against Tyler, Caldwell played five on two singles and a three run home-run to lead River to a thrilling 14-6 victory. Kylie Cross got the win from the circle, struck-out two and didn’t walk a batter in relief. The Lady Knights took charge in the opening stanza, 2-0, but the Pilots even things up in the bottom half and took the lead for good in the second with a Caldwell three-run shot.The Knights scored two more in the third, but the Pilots would match it in the bottom half, to take a 7-4 lead heading into the fourth inning. River scored one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put the game out of reach, 10-4. The Knights managed two more runs in the sixth, but River plated four in the home-half to get the win, 14-6. Besides the heroics of Caldwell at the plate and Cross in the circle, Cross also helped herself out at the plate, with two-singles and an RBI. Livi Rose knocked in a pair with a single and a double. Katie Lively brought home three teammates with a trio of singles, while Riley Lollathin doubled. Katie Rufener added an RBI triple.


In the night-cap against their county rival Monroe Central, Caldwell was again the one with the heavy artillery. She doubled and singled twice, while knocking in three runs to lead the (4-1) Pilots to a 9-3 victory. The Pilots wasted no time in taking the lead as they tallied two in the first and five more in the second before the Seminoles’ Rymie Bishop blasted a three-run home-run in the fourth for their only runs of the night. Besides the heroics of Caldwell once more, Livi Rose knocked in three runs on a double and a triple, while Riley Lollathin singled and tripled. Izi Sword got the win from the circle and scattered five hits, striking out six and walking one got the win from the circle. The Lady Pilots will host Paden City tonight at 5 p.m. in Sardis, before finishing the week on the road April 7 and 9 Shenandoah and Shadyside, respectively.


River Pilots Sink Cameron Dragons, 9-1

After splitting a double-header with Marietta, 11-7 and 2-6 to open the season, the Lady Pilots moved to 2-1 when they defeated the Cameron Dragons on March 26. The Pilots scored a pair of runs in the second, third and fourth innings, and they never looked back in handing the visiting Cameron Dragons a 9-1 white-washing.

Kylie Cross led the way with four of the Pilots’ 17-hits, including a double and two RBIs, while Katie Lively hit safely twice from the plate. She limited the Lady Dragons to four harmless singles, while striking out two and giving up just one run to pace the Lady Pilots.

Katie Rufener had three hits, including a double, and scoring twice. Candace Caldwell, Livi Rose and Elizabeth McConn each had two base hits, including doubles by Caldwell and McConn.

In addition, Riley Lollathin and Chantell Pierce each had a hit for the Pilots. Caldwell also had a sacrifice as well as Jonayah Moeller.
