Visiting Clay Battelle tops Lumberjills
(Winter Higgins Scores 500th Point)
Despite the excitement of Valley guard Winter Higgins scoring her 500th career point, with a 3-pointer for the first points of the game, the Valley Lumerjills fell on Tuesday night, January 10, to visiting Clay Battelle 47-34.
The visitors took an 11-9 first quarter lead and by halftime stretched it to six points to go up 24-18. Higgins who ended with 15 points on the night scored eight in the first half to keep Valley within striking distance. However the games top scorer was the Cee Bees Laikyn Dalton with 19 points with 11 coming in the first half. Harli Rush whoás been playing well lately also cracked double-digits as she hit for 11 points, including a 3-pointer. Laken Dawson added six for the Lumberjills and Andrea Thomas hit a pair of free throws who end the home team scoring,
Higgins also had nine rebounds in the contest, while Rush grabbed seven and Thomas got five. The Lumberjills hit 12 shot from the floor including a trio of 3ás and went 4-10 from the free throw line. Clay Battelle made 18 field goals including two 3-pointers and went 9-20 from the foul line. Kealy Statler backed up Dolton as the Cee Bees top scorers as she hit for 11 markers.
Following the Lumberjills Higgins hitting her 500th point of her career she was awarded the game ball and a shirt designating her as a member of the 500 hundred club. Congratulations to Winter.
Valley Falls to Trinity
The Lumberjills put 49 points on the scoreboard Wednesday night, January 11, in Pine Grove, but it wasnát enough as Trinity ended with 62 to get the win behind 23 points from Jenna Barnett and 22 markers from Sucora Brown.
Both teams hit for 17 points in the first quarter in what looked to be a barn burner, however the Lumberjills went ice cold in the second period scoring just five points. Trinity didn’t fare much better getting nine in the frame to take a 26-22 lead at intermission. Following the break the home team racked up 14 points to stay within striking distance, while the visitors hit for 16 to make it a six point game with eight minutes to play.
The fourth quarter saw the Lumberjills score 13 markers while Trinity hit for 20, thanks to Brown who hit 12 of her total to help the visitors get the win. Trinity also received six points each from Hannah Turner and Kaylee Winner, while Abigail Fisher added five.
Valley had three players hit in double figures led by Winter Higgins and Harli Rush with 13 points each, with Rush getting a 3-pointer. Laken Dawson added 11, including a trio of 3ás. Higgins pulled down seven rebounds and had three steals, while had six rebounds and a steal. Rush got two rebounds and a steal. Cheyenne Higgins hit for five points, including a three pointer, and had four rebounds, while Andrea Thomas knocked in four points and pulled down five rebounds. Eva Booher had two points and three rebounds and Michaela Miller hit a free throw and had two boards.
The Lumberjills hit 17 shots from the floor including five 3-pointers and went 10-14 from the free throw line. Trinity had 25 field goals, including nine 3ás, with Barnett accounting for five 3ás. They were 3-10 from the free throw line.
The loss dropped Valley to 6-6 on the season.
