Magnolia moves to 6-5 with win over Valley
The Blue Eagles upped their record to 6-5 on Monday night, January 9, with a 51-36 victory over the visiting Lumberjills. Magnolia jumped out to a 12-6 first quarter lead and never looked back as they got 19 points from Jenna Blain and 15 from Shaela Holliday to overpower Valley and pick up their 6th win on the campaign.
The Blue Eagles also got eight points from Lauren Gaiser, while Mikia Litton added four and Sienna McKeever and Josy Nice each hit for two. Mallory McDiffitt added a free throw for a point. Blain hit three 3-pointers on the night on her way to lead both teams in scoring, 12 of her total coming in the second half. She also was credited with six steals and five assists. Holliday hit 10 of her total in the second half. She added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Gaiser had 11 rebounds and three assists.
Valley was led by Winter Higgins with 10 points, while Harli Rush added nine markers, Laken Dawson pitched in with seven, and Michaela Miller added five points, Andrea Thomas got two and Charity Bates hit a free throw.
Magnolia ended with 18 field goals, including three 3ás and went 6-15 from the free throw line. Valley made nine shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers and went 13-23 from the charity stripe.
Blue Eagle Pick Up Win Over Tyler Consolidated in Boggs Classic
Magnolia scored a 46-38 win over host Tyler Consolidated on Thursday night, January 12, in Middlebourne as they advanced to play in Saturdayás Championship game in the annual Boggs Roundball Classic.
Leading the Blue Eagles to victory was senior guard Jenna Blain who scored a game high 15 points and received ample support from senior Lauren Gaiser with 12, including two 3ás. Shaela Holliday canned eight points and Sienna McKeever hit for seven. Makia Litton addded six, including a 3-pointer and 3-4 from the free throw line. The Silver Knights were led by Braeden Wall who hit for 12 points, including a 3pointer, while Katie Grimm added 11.
Magnolia hit 12 shots from the floor, including three 3ás and went 19-36 from the free throw line. The Knights made 12 shots from the floor, including one three, and made 13-22 from the free throw line. The Blue Eagles are now 7-5 on the season.
Magnolia Girls Fall to Doodridge County
The Blue Eagles worked their way to the championship game of the Boggs Basketball Classic on Saturday, January 14, but couldnát get over the top as they fell to a strong Doddridge team 46-40 in a close game.
The lady Eagles jumped out to a big lead 15-3 after the first eight minutes, with three players hitting 3ás to boost the production. The defense kept the Bulldogs on hold, however the second quarter was just the opposite as the Lady Bulldogs pimped in 20 points while holding the Blue to a single free throw from Jenna Blain. At the half it was 23-16 Doddridge as they got 10 points from Carrie Loyd in the frame and five from Tenley Paugh.
Magnolia came out of the locker room fired up and won the third quarter 15-14 with Lauren Gaiser (seven) and Makia Litton (six) leading the way. Doddridge however, received 10 points from Paugh in the quarter to maintain the lead heading down the stretch. The last eight minutes was a barn burner with Doddridge gaining a point back to get the win.
Gaiser led the Blue Eagles with 13 points, including a pair of 3ás, while Litton with two 3-pointers of her own ended with 11 points. Blain added seven, Gabby Hudson hit a three, Sienna McKeever had three, and Shaela Holliday hit a basket for two.
Doddridge got 19 markers from Paugh, including three 3ás, while Lloyd added 17, including 5-6 from the free throw line.
The Blue Eagles hit 12 shots from the floor, including six 3-pointers, and went 9-14 from the free throw line. Doddridge canned 16 field goals, including a trio of 3ás and went 11-16 from the charity stripe. The loss dropped Magnolia to 7-6 on the season.
