Hundred Girls Sting Parkersburg Christian
The Hornets made the two hour trip to Parkersburg on Thursday night, December 5, and came away with their ninth victory of the season against one loss, as they crushed the home team 56-21 despite playing without one of their starters Summer Morris.
The first eight minutes set the pace for the contest as the Hornets fired in 19 points to Parkersburgs 6, and repeated the feat in the second quarter for a 38-12 halftime lead.
Hundred junior guard Ashlyn Peters was red hot in the first period as she canned a three pointer to start things off and hit two more 3ás to end the period with nine points. However junior pivot Roxie Huggins who continues to impress added six in the first period and junior Leah Dean had four. In the second quarter,
Huggins came up huge hitting a 3-pointer and ending with 10 points in the frame, while Peters cahed in another from beyond the arc, and Dean three more baskets for six points. With Peters controlling the tempo of the game from her guard position the Hornets tight defense gave Christian limited opportunities with Jubille Minney ending the contest as their top scorer wint nine points, including their only 3-pointer on the night.
The seond half saw Hundred score 10 points to Christians 5 for a 48-17 lead heading into the last eight minutes. With Huggins and Peters both setting out the fourth quarter the Hornets scored eight points to four for the home team to get the win.
Huggins led all scorers on the night with 20 points, while adding13 rebounds, plus five steals, and three assists. Dean had a big night on the boards as well for the visiting Hornets as she pulled in 12 rebounds, to go along with her 17 points, and four assists. Peters finished with 13 points, including four 3-pointers and 1-2 from the free throw line. Areonna Zarco played tough around the boards hauling in 13 rebounds to match Huggins for top honors. She also added two points, five assists and two steals. Kylie Morris and Ryleigh Morgan each hit for two points, with Morris grabbing 11 rebounds.
The Hornets hit 22 field goals, including five 3ás and went 7-12 from the free throw line, while pulling in 50 rebounds and getting 11 steals.
