Magnolia’s Bella Sockman Impressive In The Sprints
Magnolia sophomore Bella Sockman has stepped it up a notch in the sprints in her last two outings and on Tuesday April 28, at John Marshall high school she took first place in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. In the 100 meter dash she ran a blazing 12.78 to edge out John Marshall junior Sarah Hess you ran a 12.88. Valley senior Laken Dawson ended in third place with a time of 13.13. Kendall Loy of Valley finished seventh with a time of 14.29. Dawson has the top times in both events in Class A so far and is a favorite to repeat in the 200 at Charleston. Sockman is improving with each outing and the two local girls will prove to be tough competition for each other as the State event draws near.
In the 200 meter dash Sockman put out another big effort and again nipped Hess at the finish line with a time of 26.28 compared to Hess’s 26.74. In the 400 meter dash Magnolia’s Annalise Goddard finished fifth with a time of 1:11.64. Teammate Nora Shackleford was sixth with a time of 1:13.63. Goddard also gave a good effort in the 800 meter run finishing third with a time of 2:47.40. Magnolia’s Hailey Serwatka was fifth with a time of 2:54.85 and teammate Shackleford came in eighth with a time of 3:00.90.
Magnolia senior Jessa Anderson ran a 17.23 to finish a very close second behind Weirton’s Myleigh Clevenger who finished with a 17.16. Valley’s Elynn Derby was seventh in a time of 18.65, while teammate Carley Pittman was eighth in a time of 19.65.
In 300 meter low hurdles the Lumberjills Derby came in third with a time of 52.38, while Pittman was fourth with a time of 57.62. Magnolia freshman Sydney Quinet finished fifth with a time of 59.95.
Magnolia’s 4×100 meter relay team took third place with a time of 56.11 from a team of Leah Hartline, Hallee Beisel, Addison Yeager, and Ireland Lowe.
Valley’s 4×200 meter relay team won the event with a time of 1:52.94 another from a team of Elynn Derby, Kendall Loy, Kynnedi Dallison, and Laken Dawson setting another school record in the event after establishing the record 1:53.1 the night before at Clay Battelle The Lady Blue Eagles finished in fifth place with a time of 2:02.35 from a team of Sydney Quinet, Hallee Beisel, Briley Dalrymple, and Ireland Lowe.
Magnolia’s girls won the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 5:11.92 from a team of Nora Shackleford, Hailey Serwatka, and Sydney Quinet.
Valley’s girls were third in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:16.16 from a team of Carley Pittman, Kynnedi Dallison, Kendall Loy, and Elynn Derby.
Magnolia’s Aubrey Warder came in third in the shot put with a heave of 27-10. Lady Blue Eagle Sophia Alexander was eighth with a 24-5. In the discus throw Magnolia claimed the second, third, and fourth places with Sophia Alexander throwing 81-9, Aubrey Warder throwing 81-5, and Zoey Mast throwing 77-10.
Magnolia’s Leah Hartline won the high jump clearing the bar at 4-10. Valley’s Laken Dawson won the long jump with a leap of 16-6, while Magnolia’s Jessa Anderson was second with a leap of 15-6.25.
In the men’s division Magnolia’s Ethan Finch came in seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.40. The Blue Eagles Riley Dennis was sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.82.
In the 800 meter run Magnolia’s Alex Yeager was third with a time of 2:21.79, followed by teammate Nicholas Matheney in fourth place with a time of 2:26.29. They both repeated in the 1600 meter run with Yeager third with a time of 5:18.87, and Matheney fourth with a time of 5:35.20.
Valley’s Luke Beaty was fourth in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 22.49. The Blue Eagles Parker Werkau was third in the 300 meter low hurdles with a time of 49.43. Valley’s Beaty was fifth with a time of 51.52.
In the DMR 4000 meter relay Magnolia came in second with a time of 12:09.43 from a team of Parker Werkau, Alex Yeager, Manowah Vaughn, and Riley Dennis.
The Blue Eagles 4×110 shuttle hurdle team won the event in a time of 1:11.12 from a team of Werkau, Greg Moore, Ashton Skelley, and Kraytin Nice.
Magnolia’s Anthony Lancaster took first place in the shot put with a heave of 46-5. Blue Eagle Eli Eddy was fifth with a toss of 38-9, while Hunter Cooley was eighth with a toss of 37-9.
Lancaster finished second in the discus with a throw of 133-8. Magnolia’s Brayden Grimes was fourth with a throw of 116.1. In the long jump Valley’s Tripp Ice came in fifth with a leap of 16-1.75.
