River Drowns Dragons
The River Pilots jumped all over the Cameron Dragons on Tuesday night, January 20, in Hannibal, at R. L. Potts gymnasium, with a convincing 61-14 victory.
After holding the visitors to five first half points, the Pilots continued the onslaught in the second half limiting Cameron to three baskets, all 3-pointers.
River’s defense forced 23 turnovers turning them into several easy baskets. The Pilots were also hot from the 3-point line sinking 10 of their 23 field goals from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Crestyn Isaly knocked in 24 points, including five 3-pointers to lead all scorers. He also dished out three assists and added five steals. Cam Abbott also had a hot hand hitting three 3’s and ending with 15 points. Evan Longwell added 13 points, including a 3-pointer giving coach Mark Romick’s team three double figure scorers on the night.
Aydin McBride ended with four points, while Bentley Fox hit a 3-pointer, and Wyatt Stalder added two points to round out the scoring for the home team.
Cameron received six points each from Camden McCauley and Danny Yoss, while Hunter Dobbs hit a basket to end the scoring for the Dragons.
The Pilots controlled every aspect of the game as they out-rebounded the visitors 31-17. River hit 5-8 free throws and made 23 baskets, while Cameron hit just five field goals and 1-3 free throws.
The win moved the Pilots to 9-4 on the season, while Cameron fell to 3-8.
