The Esther Crumbly Fund Helps 450 Families

By Rick Loy - Staff Writer | Dec 23, 2020

Esther Crumbly food giveaway held at the Catholic Church in New Martinsville.

The Esther Crumbly Fund Board of Directors held a food and gift giveaway for nearly 450 families on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Catholic Church Klug Hall in New Martinsville from 9 am -12 pm.

Chairman Ephram Wade said, “We’ve been doing this since 1980 and it grows bigger every year with donations from churches, parishioners, individuals, businesses, and professional communities. We could not offer this every year without all the volunteers. So many people are willing to volunteer their time to help our families in the community. Co-chairman Carolyn Yoho, Community Resources Coordinator Lisa Gonzales and Co-coordinator Denise Klug, Nancy Yoho from the Salvation Army (Angel Tree), Diana Vell with Catholic charities (Secret Santa), and many others are so instrumental in making it all possible”.

Wade said $18,000 was raised from donations this year to purchase hams, vegetables, fruit, and other necessities for the holiday meals.

“All the donations from the area Catholic Churches and all the volunteers make this giveaway a huge success every year. The New Martinsville Library donated books this year and from other donations we fixed up gift bags containing books and toys for the kids. It just warms my heart to see the looks on the people’s faces when we load their vehicles. I want to thank everyone who volunteered and donated. Our community is very giving and helpful. A really big thank you to St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church for letting us stage the giveaways at their location,” Community Resources Coordinator Lisa Gonzales said.

A lady and gentleman pulling a cart and wagon to receive their food from the giveaway, said they had walked over two miles to get the food and gifts.

The community is awesome in helping the less fortunate in this area. The Esther Crumbly Board of Directors, Volunteers, Catholic Churches, Salvation Army, Secret Santa, our community, volunteers, and all who donated are to be commended. Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday’s to all.

Any contributions are welcomed and may be mailed to Community Resources, Inc., 21 Rosary Road, Suite A., New Martinsville, WV 26155.

Checks should be endorsed to Community Resources, Inc. with the memo stating Esther Crumbly Fund.
