The New Martinsville Parks & Recreation recently partnered with the YWCA Wheeling Family Violence Prevention Program and the New Martinsville Police Department to offer a women’s self defense class. There were two classes held on April 7 at the Lincoln Theater. The first class was for young women in grades 9 through 12, while the second class was open to women over 18 years of age.

There were over 50 women who participated in the class. Each woman received a lot of great information and practical instruction.

The program was made possible through a $2,500 grant received by the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Department from the Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley, Women’s Giving Circle.

The New Martinsville Parks & Recreation is hoping to offer another class later on in the year.
