By Staff | Mar 28, 2018

Yellow fire tape surrounds a home in New Martinsville on March 28. According to the New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department, the fire resulted in a total loss of the home.

New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rick Myers has released some details regarding an early-morning March 28 fire.

Myers said his department was alerted at 5:10 a.m. to a report of black smoke “coming from a stove in a home in the west side of AAA Mobile Home Park.”

Myers said the first units found heavy smoke coming from the structure and “immediately made an interior fire attack.”

The chief said the occupants were sleeping, and the fire had spread throughout the underneath of the home.

“Fire personnel were on scene until about 8:30 completely extinguishing the fire. Everyone was able to get out but the home is a total loss,” said Chief Myers.

Myers said the exact cause of the fire is under investigation. NMVFD was assisted by Wetzel County EMS, Paden City Volunteer Fire Company, and Sardis Volunteer Fire Department.
