That’s A Lot of Eggs!

The 50th anniversary of the annual Wetzel County 4-H/FFA Ham and Bacon show set a record total of $75,240.13, soaring above last year’s total of $51,789.25. Auction services were provided by Ron Morrison. Notably, Morrison has provided auction services at the show for 21 years.

The event was held at the Wetzel County 4-H Grounds Mollohan Center and featured ham, bacon and eggs raised by Wetzel County Students.

The grand champion ham was exhibited by Samantha Morris. Weighing 24 pounds, it sold to McDonald’s for $200 per pound, or $4,800.

The grand champion bacon, weighing 8.5 pounds, was exhibited by Cody Soles. It sold for $350 per pound, or $2,975, to Wetzel County Assessor Scott Lemley.

The grand champion eggs, exhibited by Annie Fox along with the reserve champion eggs, exhibited by Curtis Tedrow were both purchased by Triple E Services for $1,200 each.

The grand champion ham was exhibited by Samantha Morris and was purchased by New Martinsville McDonald’s Owner, Nelson Hachum.

The reserve champion ham was exhibited by Tyler White. The 24 pound ham sold for $75 a pound, for a total of $1,800 to Antero Resources.

The reserve champion bacon was exhibited by George Brown. The bacon weighed 7.25 pound and was sold for $185 per pound to Union Bank, Inc. for a grand total of $1,526.25.

The scholarship ham and bacon was donated by the Morris Family. The ham was purchased by the Wileyville VFD for $2,600. Wetzel County Sheriff Mike Koontz purchased the bacon for $725.

Two 25th Anniversary Viking Glass Scholarship Bells were auctioned off for $400 each to WesBanco and Shawn Kuhn.

The Bob Coen Memorial Scholarship ham was donated by Cheyenne Coen and sold to Wileyville VFD for. $2,500.
