New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil reports that both Amanda R. Long, 28, of 414 Ohio Street, New Martinsville, and Michael A. Briggs, II, 25, of 368 Virginia Street, New Martinsville, were arrested Feb. 12 for allegedly making crystal meth.

The Wetzel County Magistrate report states that NMPD was making an arrest on Long at the Plaza Inn in New Martinsville when a noise was heard coming from the hotel room’s restroom. A protective sweep was made of the restroom and Briggs was found with a meth lab. The report adds that the West Virginia State Police Meth Lab Team “was activated to complete a search and deactivation.”

Cecil added that the New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department was also on stand by at the time. All equipment and ingredients necessary to manufacture meth were allegedly found to be present.

The report states that after Long was read her rights, she stated she was manufacturing meth for her and Briggs’ personal use.

Long and Briggs appeared before Magistrate Judith Goontz, Feb. 13, where bond was set at $30,000 a piece. A preliminary hearing has been set for today in Wetzel County Magistrate Court.
