Winter storm brings flooding

By Staff | Jan 11, 2023

Recent warm temperatures brought high winds and hard driving rain last week that closed many roads, caused hill slides, brought down trees, flooded city streets and roadways throughout the area, and caused numerous property damage.

Several people reported water entering their basements, and local fields and back roads had flashflooding that entered homes and businesses. Streets in Paden City and New Martinsville were covered in water and with that brought lots of debris and cleanup. Some of the streets are still in need of cleaning.

Pictured above is a photo of high waters that surrounded houses and closed roads near Route 180 and Paden Fork Road, in Wetzel County.

As a result of the high water and road conditions most schools let out early and were on a two hour delay the following day. As always if you encounter high water turn around and don’t drown!
