Wetzel FFA and 4-H Sale

On Friday evening March 6th, the Wetzel County Mollohan Shelter hosted the 58th annual Ham Bacon and Egg sale. Each year local members of the FFA and 4-H club come together to offer prize ham, bacon sides, and eggs for sale to the public and local businesses.

This Friday night auction was conducted by Ron Morris and Greg Murphy. This was their 20th year calling the numbers in Wetzel County to buyers. Hope Gas sponsored an old fashion cornbread dinner for the buyers and attendees.

This year the sale drew 116 FFA members and 4-H members to offer their wares to the public. The sale of hams, bacon, and eggs raised $89,265.00. The monies go to the students who have worked hard to raise the livestock and prepare it for sale. In the egg category both brown and white eggs were sold.

The Grand Champion ham this year was presented by Logan Morris and weighed in at 25.75 lbs. When sold it brought $2,000. The reserve champion ham was raised by Aubrey Gump and weighed in at 26 lbs. and sold for $2,000. The Grand Champion Bacon was presented by Noah Thorne weighing in at 8lbs. and sold for $2,000. Reserve Champion Bacon was presented by Ruthie Lemley weighing in at 8 lbs. and sold for $2,100.00. The Grand Champion eggs were presented by Kamden Fluharty, and sold for $1,000.00. Reserve Champion Eggs was presented by Elizebeth Johnson and sold for $1000.00.

Dreaming Big Livestock donated both the Scholarship Ham and bacon. The Bob Coen Memorial Scholarship Jacket was donated by the Pine Grove Alumni.

Also raised during the auction were funds for the Bob Coen Memorial Scholarship total was $2,125. Paul Henderson Memorial Scholarship total-$11,028.

A total of 47 hams and 47 bacons along with 10 dozen eggs were sold for a grand total Sales total-$89,305
