Folsom Fire Department Chief Jimmy Glasscock says Early CPR saved the life of a Jacksonburg Man
On October 3rd. A gentleman from Jacksonburg was passing through Folsom on his way to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, when he came through Folsom, he became ill and wrecked his car. Chief Jimmy Glasscock of the Folsom Fire Department said, “While it remains unclear exactly what happened, it was early CPR that saved the man’s life.”
EMT Timmy Glasscock of Folsom came upon the scene, just before the Harrison/Wetzel County line. As Glasscock approached the wrecked vehicle, he saw a woman in the car attempting CPR. Timmy immediately radioed Wetzel Dispatch reporting the accident and immediately removed the gentleman from the vehicle. He then assessed the gentleman and found him to be pulseless and not breathing, so he immediately resumed compressions.
The Folsom Fire Department was dispatched to the scene with a report of a single vehicle accident with CPR in progress. When the ambulance crew arrived on scene, the patient was hooked up to the cardiac monitor and found to be in V-Fib (ventricular fibrillation), which is 1 of only 2 shockable cardiac rhythms. An airway was established, and a shock was delivered. With only one electrical shock, the patient was converted to a normal sinus rhythm. The patient was then moved to the ambulance, IVs established, and cardiac medications administered while enroute to United Hospital Center. The patient was later transferred to Ruby Memorial where he remained hospitalized for several days before being released. The Folsom Fire Department was told by the patient’s wife “he came home on Thursday and was out mowing on Saturday and Sunday.” The patient recently stopped at the fire department to thank everyone for saving his life.
“While this is a remarkable recovery, it doesn’t always turn out this way,” says Chief Glasscock. “Very seldom does anyone, including first responders, ever witness such an amazing outcome. We always do our best and hope for a positive outcome, but it just doesn’t always happen.”
“Needless to say, it did prove that immediate activation of 911 and early CPR can indeed save a patient’s life.”
Chief Glasscock praised EMT Timmy Glasscock for his quick reactions, but also said that the team effort of the other responders, Advanced EMT DJ Glasscock, EMT Jamie Wade, Paramedics Nick Wade, Heather Wade and Cindy Glasscock played a very significant role in the patient’s survival of cardiac arrest.
“Without the continuation of advanced life support measures, the patient may not have survived,” states Chief Glasscock. “The patient could have gone into cardiac arrest again, and it could have been a totally different outcome for him.”
During the department’s regular meeting, Sunday, November 2, 2025, Chief Glasscock, on behalf of the Folsom Fire Department, presented a plaque to each responder involved.
“I am extremely proud of our whole department,” says Glasscock.
“If you or someone you know is interested in learning life-saving techniques such as CPR, please feel free to contact the fire department at 304.334.2200 Ext. 3, or any member of the department,” added Glasscock
