Magnolia Cross Country Hosts Annual Mudhole Invitational
The event kicked off on Saturday, September 13, at 9:00am. Brooke County won the overall team meet led by Gavin Scott, the first runner to cross the finish line with a time of 17:20. The 5K course took place at the marina along Harlan Drive and crossed the stream into the old golf course making a difficult run for all participants.
Finishing a close second was Wood County Christian’s Koa Navarro with a 17:20. 32. Wheeling Central’s Michael Hutnick came in third with a time of 17:22. Fourth place overall in the meet was Magnolia senior Riley Dennis with a time of 18:22. Holden Misel of Wood County Christian was fifth with an 18:46. Sixth place went to Dane Stewart of Wood County Christian in a time of 19:37. He was also named the runner of the meet. Seventh place was Alexander Obeldobel of Brooke with a time of 19:37. Eighth place belonged to Pierce Farrell of Brooke in a time of 20:05. Ninth was another Blue Eagle as Alex Yeager of Magnolia crossed the finish line in a time of 20:50. 10th place was Caden Knisley of Brooke with a 21:01. 11th went to Charlie McCoy of Brooke in a time of 21:02.
Isaac Sheppard of Wood County Christian was 12th at 21:34. Magnolia’s Nicholas Matheny was 13th with a time of 22:14, while Jacob Perry of Wheeling Central was 14th with a 24:31.
On Saturday, September 20, the Blue Eagles cross country team took part in the annual Cameron Wet and Wild International. John Marshall was the overall team winner with a score of 29.
Brooke was second with 56, North Marion third with 61, and West Greene fourth with 74.
The boys individual results saw Magnolia’s Riley Dennis placing third overall in the strong field of runners with a time of 20:10.8. First place belonged to Brooke’s Gavin Scott with a time of 19:28.4, while Wheeling Central’s Michael Hutnick was second with a 19:50.5. 37 runners from eight different schools placed in the top 40.
