Wetzel County BOE Holds Meeting at WCTEC
The Board of Education on Monday evening January 24, 2022, held their monthly meeting at the Wetzel County Technical Education Center (WCTEC). The Board had it on the agenda to recognize and introduce teachers and students involved with Leadership Framework, but due to weather conditions it will now be held at the February 14, meeting also at the WCTEC.
President Brian Price called Monday’s meeting to order with all members present. Superintendent Tammy Wells updated the board on the Persist strategies program for problem solving and the functioning of student’s skills. She said they will be moving forward with more strategies to assist the Wetzel County students and teachers.
The approval of the minutes for the January 10, 2022, regular meeting and the special meeting on January 18, 2022, meetings were given a unanimous vote by the board.
The superintendent recommended the board approve personnel and routine matters. The board entered into executive session for discussion on leaves of absences. Upon retuning they gave unanimous approval of all matters.
Personnel Matters: Resignations: Kelly Lloyd acceptance of resignation from position as 7/8 Boys’ Track Coach at Short Line School, effective immediately.
Service Personnel: Angela D. McDonald approval for change in assignment from countywide substitute cook to Cook at New Martinsville School, 676/B, effective January 25, 2022. Tammy L. Minor approval for change in assignment from countywide substitute Supervisory Teacher Aide to ¢ time Supervisory Bus Aide at Valley High School/WCTEC, effective January 25, 2022. Steven C. Zajdowicz approval for change in assignment from Evening Custodian at Valley High School to Afternoon Custodian at Valley High School, effective January 25, 2022.
Extracurricular: Richard E. Conner approval for employment as Assistant Baseball Coach at Magnolia High School, effective the beginning of the 2021-2022 WVSSAC Season. Travis A. Emch approval for employment as Assistant Boys’ Track Coach at Magnolia High School, effective the beginning of the 2021-2022 WVSSAC Season. John W. Smith approval for employment as Head Baseball Coach at Magnolia High School, effective the beginning of the 2021-2022 WVSSAC Season.
Leave of Absence: Approval of request from Lauren Peluchette for a maternity leave of absence from her position as Preschool Special Education Teacher at New Martinsville School, effective beginning approximately January 31, 2022 through May 13, 2022. Approval of request from Shelly Coen for a medical leave of absence from her position as Cook at Short Line School, effective January 1, 2022 through April 3, 2022. Approval of request from Brittany Hoskins for an extension of her maternity leave of absence from her position as General Music/Choir Director at New Martinsville School, which began at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, to extend to the end of the 2021- 2022 school year. Approval of request from Laura Hoskins for an extension of her medical leave of absence from her position as Second Grade Teacher at New Martinsville School, which began January 22, 2021, to extend to the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Approval of request from Cristi Work for a family medical leave of absence from her position as First Grade Teacher at Paden City Elementary, effective February 3, 2022 through February 18, 2022. Approval of request from Erica McCoy for a family medical leave of absence from her position as Science Teacher at Magnolia High School, effective January 14, 2022 through release from physician.
Routine Matters: Out of State Trips: Approval of request from M. Fay Pritchard, Principal, for Chad West, School Counselor, to attend the American School Counselor Association’s Annual Conference in Austin, Texas, on July 9-12, 2022. Funded through County Professional Development. Approval of request from Tammy H. Wells, Superintendent, to attend District Administration Superintendent Forum in New Orleans, LA, February 15-18, 2022. Funded through District Administration.
The approval for the purchase of Rooftop HVAC Unit from Tobey Karg Sales 4640 Campbells Run Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15205 Purchase of Rooftop HVAC Unit (Aaon) for Paden City Elementary $157,240.00.
Approval for Transfers and Increases in the Budget were given unanimous approval by the board.

The board had a discussion among the members for possible action on the Covid-19 leave policy. No action was taken.
