A Mother’s Day Tribute

By Staff | May 5, 2021

Our Aunt Mom is like a second mother.

We are sisters and brothers.

Fifty-six years has past

Since that terrible tragedy! Alas!*

To raise her Brother’s children – A Must!*

Her decision never to be questioned – It’s Just!*

Aunt Mom’s future changed at “this” fork in the road.

To love and protect us she welcomed the load.

Discipline was issued without the belt.

Reasoning with patience eventually was felt.

Embracing us helped to conquer our fears

And understanding never ridiculed our tears.

A learning process differed for each.

Deep within her soul she reached.

She worked to fulfill our needs.

Thank God for Aunt Mom indeed!

Some of our “wants” came about

When we needed an out.

She wore all the “hats”

Ensuring we never lacked.

As life called us to be on our own

Occasionally she helped with a loan.

As difficult times struck as life does,

Aunt Mom promised support, and there she was.

We all married and those with off spring

Became like grandchildren – a beautiful thing.

Major holidays at her home families met.

A tradition she alone proudly kept.

How does one pay back such a debt?

We can’t: but we can practice the moral foundations she set.

Christ said: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man

Lay down his life for his friends.” (In this case – her family)

Trying to tell you how I feel

Words from this poem express my heart so real.

Aunt Mom, I couldn’t have asked for a better mother.

Who sacrificed everything for the children of your Brother.

Mom and Dad would be proud

And as I shout out loud:

In God’s image we were made and Hilda Wright

Agape love in your life shines ever so bright!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

*Alas – used to express unhappiness; pity; or concern

*Must – an imperative need or duty

*Just – acting or being in conformity with what is morally upright or good
