Baseball Tournament Scheduled

A WoodFellas 10U Baseball Tournament is scheduled for July 1-6 at Lock 12 Field at North Third Street in Warwood and at Benwood Field at Benwood City Park.

Ladies Golf Scramble On Tap

The St. Marys Ladies Golf Association will sponsor a four-lady Golf Scramble on July 13 at the St. Marys Golf Course. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with breakfast starting at 8 a.m.

Tee-off time is 9 a.m. Entry fee is $40 per person. Make checks payable to St. Marys Ladies Golf Association. Send reservations and money by July 6 to Pansy Raper, 124 Fifth Avenue, Paden City, WV 26179.

Lunch will be served after play. Cash will be awarded as prizes.

Purple?Power Night Fast Approaching

The West Virginia Power Baseball Team and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network are teaming up for Purple Power Night on Friday, July 9. On that night, the West Virginia Power will be hosting the Lexington Legends in a 7:05 p.m. contest. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to the game in honor and memory of all those fighting pancreatic cancer.

On that night, the West Virginia Power will be wearing purple jerseys, and, following the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Also, there will be purple bases.

The West Virginia Power plays its games at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, and the team is a Class A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death each year in the United States. It took the lives of an estimated 210 West Virginians last year, when 33,170 other Americans were diagnosed with it and 33,170 succumbed to is ravages.

Currently, there are no early detection methods.

During Purple Power Night, a video tribute will be made in honor and memory of those battling pancreatic cancer. Persons may email pictures of loved ones to be included in the tribute to Annette Fetty-Santilli at asantilli@pancanvolunteer.org.

Tickets for the game are available from Fetty’s Repair Service, 10 Foster St., Buckhannon and at Sam Santilli Photography, 17 Beech Avenue, Philippi. Tickets are $7 each, with half of the proceeds benefiting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Mike Ray B-Ball Camp Features Liz Repella

WVU Women’s Basketball power forward Liz Repella will be the featured guest at the 22nd Mike Ray Basketball Camp at Hundred July 12-16, from 9 a.m. to noon. Repella and several local coaches and players will teach ball handling, passing, shooting and rebounding skills and fundamentals of defense.

The campers will be divided into three grade groups: elementary; 2-5 junior; 6-8; and senior 9-12. They will practice foul shots, three point shots and hot spot skill fundamentals. The campers also will learn skills such as shooting form, offensive moves in the perimeter, boxing out, offensive moves in the paint, defending the dribbler and cutter.

Registration is $25 a camper. You are asked to pre-register to Mike Ray at PO Box 182, Hundred, WV 26575.

Paden City Youth Baseball will sponsor a Summer Baseball Classic Tournament for 7-8 and 9-10-year-old players at Paden City Park June 24-27. Entry fee is $100 and two baseballs, with four games guaranteed in a pool play format.

MHS Boys’ Basketball Host Community Night

The Magnolia High School Boys’ Basketball Team will host a “Community Night” at Wendy’s Restaurant in New Martinsville tonight, June 23, from 5- 8 p.m. Players will be assisting with serving, clearing tables and other duties. In return, Wendy’s will donate 10 percent of all sales made from 5-8 p.m. to the Magnolia Boys’ Basketball

PC Alumni & Families Host Golf Scramble

The Paden City Alumni and Families will be teeing off for the 36th time at the Sistersville Country Club, July 3, beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Disc Golf Grand

Opening July 10

The Timberdoodle Thicket Disc Golf and Camping grand opening will be held July 10. Timberdoodle Golf and Camping is located five miles out Elk Fork Road off W. Va. State Rt. 180 between New Martinsville and Middlebourne. It will feature the inaugural Timberdoodle Thicket Triathlon that includes an 18 Hole Disc Golf Tournament beginning at 10 a.m., a horseshoe tournament at 1 p.m., and a cornhole tournament at 5 p.m.
