Rodney D. Hanson Memorial
Golf Scramble Approaching
The ninth annual Rodney D. Hanson Memorial Scholarship Golf Scramble to benefit area college students will be held on Monday, May 24 at the Belmont Hills Country Club.
All proceeds from the scramble directly benefit the Rodney D. Hanson Memorial Scholarship, designated for students attending Ohio University’s Eastern Campus. During the last eight years, participants have raised more than $75,000 for students.
The endowed scholarship was established by Hanson’s wife, Debbi Hanson Shutler, with the support of the St. Clairsville Sunrise Rotary after her husband Rodney, a St. Clairsville attorney, died in February 2000. “Our family truly appreciates the continued involvement of the event’s sponsors and golfers,” said Hanson Shutler. “It is such a wonderful thing that Rodney is memorialized by this scholarship that provides assistance to Ohio University students at the Eastern Campus. He would be so humbled by the success that this scholarship fund has received.”
Lunch is at 11:15 a. m. with a shotgun start planned for 12:15 p.m. A dinner at the country club will follow the tournament. The entry fee is $125 per golfer or $500 per team which includes golf and all special events (skins, $10,000 putting contest, mulligan and throw), lunch, dinner, prizes and refreshments on the course.
The top four teams will win pro shop credits including $600 for low gross, $600 for low net, $500 for runner-up low net, and $400 for third place low net.
Those who want to attend the dinner only may buy tickets for $25 each. Dinner will be served immediately following the scramble.
