Annual Jug Handle 5K Race Sunday
The 18th Annual Jug Handle 5K Run/Walk will be Aug. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Middlebourne, state Route 18 North. It will begin at the bridge, go out Seller’s Road, and come back. It will be timed by the Middlebourne Roadrunners Club and sponsored by the Tyler County Fair Association.Trophies will be awarded to the first female and male runners. The age groups for males will be 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. The age groups for females will be 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over. Pre-registration and day-of-race registration will be $10. Profits will benefit the Long Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and Service Awards presented to students from Arthur I. Boreman Elementary School, Sistersville Elementary School, and Tyler Consolidated Middle and High schools. Make checks payable to Kerm Long. Come prepared to run. Restrooms are available at Lucy’s Restaurant and Witschey’s. Traffic control will be provided by the Tyler County Sherriff’s Office, Middlebourne Fire Department, and Middle-bourne Emergency Squad.
PC Flag Football Signups
Paden City will be holding flag football signups on Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Paden City High School multi-building for kids in grades Kindergarten through six.
TCHS Football Team Sponsors Golf Scramble
The Tyler Consolidated football team is sponsoring a benefit golf scramble Aug. 8 at the Sistersville Country Club. A shotgun start will begin the event at 9 a.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place finishers. A hole-in-one on Hole 1 wins $25,000. There will also be door prizes, raffles, and hole prizes. The cost will be $50 per golfer and will include green fees, cart, food, and beverages.

Scholarship Golf Scramble
The second annual Courtney Evans Memorial Scholarship four-person Golf Scramble has been scheduled for Aug. 9.
It will be held at Mingo Bottom Golf Club in Elizabeth. There will be a $50 entry fee per person with four person teams welcome. It will be an 18 hole, half cart event. Lunch and refreshments will be included. If necessary, teams will be assembled on site. On site registration starts at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start following at 2 p.m., but early registration is encouraged.
The golf course will be dedicated to this event the afternoon of Aug. 9, so they will play rain or shine. This is a benefit golf scramble and its sole purpose is to remember one of the Ohio Valley’s finest young men and to help further the education of others in his memory. All proceeds will be dedicated to the scholarship fund. Those wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund can mail a donation in the name of Courtney Evans can be sent to Terry Nichols, 2218 Lindy Circle, St. Marys, WV 26170. Youth Golf Tournament
There will be a youth golf tournament at St. Marys Golf Club on Aug. 10. Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. with tee off at 4. Any child 12 and under wishing to participate should call the St. Marys golf club and pre-register. The age divisions will be ages 11-12 boys, 11-12 girls, and 10 and under girls and boys. This will be a nine-hole tournament with the course set up for specific age groups. If time allows, special putting and chipping contests will be conducted. If parents choose, golf carts will be available for $5 to caddy for your child. St. Marys Golf Course has been proactive in allowing youth to get involved with the game of golf and want to encourage all interested kids in the mid-Ohio Valley to participate.

Girls’ Basketball Camp
Girls’ Basketball Camp for grades six through eight will be held Aug. 10, 12, 14, 17, and 19, 6-7:30 p.m., in the Magnolia High School Auxiliary Gym. Cost is $25. Sign up early as space is limited. The event is sponsored by the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Department, but will be taught by a coach. Applications are available at the New Martinsville City Building. Bring a water bottle. Softball Tournament
There will be a men’s softball tournament on Aug. 22 and 23 by the Sistersville Parks and Recreation. There will be an entry fee per team with pay-outs being awarded to first, second, and third place teams.It will be double elimination. Coast To Coast Basketball Camp
Coast to Coast Baseball invites local players ages 10-18 to an upcoming tryout where Coast to Coast staff will evaluate skills in four areas: hitting, fielding, arm strength, and speed.
Players who are accepted to the program may choose to represent the USA in competition in Puerto Rico or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at the organization’s Arizona or Florida Camp and showcase events held at a MLB spring-training complex.
In addition to the tryout, an instructional hitting camp is held to help players improve hitting fundamentals as well as their mental approach at the plate.
Events will be held at West Virginia State College Institute Aug. 8 with tryouts at 10 a.m. and hitting camp starting at 2 p.m.
