Lewis Wetzel Chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation at the Pine Grove Sportsman’s Club

By Staff | Jul 15, 2026

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Lewis Wetzel Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation held its annual JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) Day event at the Pine Grove Sportsman’s Club. During the event, there were sessions on archery, BB shooting, trapping, turkey calling, and shooting at the gun range. Moose Lodge #931 provided a delicious lunch for all of the youth, parents, and helpers. After the sessions and lunch, there was a one-hour fishing tournament and Hope Gas graciously provided the funds for the 300 pounds of catfish that were stocked in the pond for the day. Stacy Barcus, the JAKES Coordinator, would like to thank all of the volunteers who came out and helped on Saturday. Special thank you to Guy Hostutler, Jimmy Stewart, Jacob Norton, Jeremy Kelch, Terry Adams, Makhl Hood, Idell Akers, Roy Akers, Lincoln Duke, Annette Duke, Beau Stewart, and Nicki Stewart for being in charge of our stations or for volunteering with us for the day. Thank you also goes out to chapter members Andrew Stickler, Grayson Stickler, Delmer Walls, Heather Norton, and Patty Barcus for helping out as adult leaders and setting up. We had close to 40 youth and teenagers in attendance for the free event, and we gave away four guns and a trail camera as prizes. Although the fish didn’t want to cooperate for the tournament very well this year, the winners of the fishing tournament were Christian Hickman and Ivy Kelch with the biggest catches of the day. Again, we would like to thank Hope Gas, Moose Lodge #931, and all of the volunteers and chapter members for helping to make this free event possible.
