Coach David White’s Lady Pilots had completed the regular season with a 20-win record. A very respectable season for any team. That record took them into post season play. Last week they took on the Toronto Red Knights with home field advantage. After five innings of play, they completed the game winning by mercy rule in the middle of the fifth inning with a score of 13-3.

That victory would take them to play Caldwell in the second round where they fell 10-0 in six innings. In the previous meetings over the past three seasons, Caldwell defeated the Pilots nine times. With that in mind, it could have had some effect on the mental attitude of this team.

Caldwell came out confident and put runs on the board early in the game. The Pilots had trouble producing any offense and by the top of the sixth inning, the home team Redskins had the lead 4-0. It was at that point when the sky turned gray, thunder was in the area and a little rain fell. After a time, the game was resumed with the Pilots once again struggling to put any runs on the board.

At the bottom of the sixth, Caldwell scored six times making the game a ten-point spread and ending the Pilots season with 20 wins and 8 losses.

The team played outstanding ball throughout the season. At times during the season they looked like they were struggling and then they would get their game together and pull out a victory. Ava Wohnhas was the heart of the team, but she made sure the team knew their success was due to the entire Pilots squad stepping up, making a difference.

Coach Dave White finished his season with 330 career victories. Some wonder if he will return for the 2027 season to increase his winning record. Dave will make that decision based on his love for the game and the River Pilots program. As to his winning numbers, “It is just a number.” Congratulations
