Valley Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Frontier
The Lumberjills hosted cross river rival Frontier high school on Friday April 17, in girls softball action and despite a late game rally fell short to the Cougars 12-11.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning, but Frontier added four in the top of the second to take a 5-1 lead. The Cougars built the lead to 8-1 after four innings, but Valley came back with one in the third and two in the fifth to trail 8-4.
The visitors added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh and looked to have the win leading 12-4 with the Lumberjills batting in the bottom of the seventh.
However, Valley’s bats came alive and nearly overcame the deficit, but fell one run short after scoring seven in the inning.
Maddy Miller had two hits, scored three times and knocked in two runs for the Lumberjills, while Michaela Miller had two hits, including a triple, scored a run and had two RBI. Kynnedie Dallison added a hit, an RBI, and scored a run. Ruthie Lemley had a hit and scored a run, while Emily Postlethwait had a hit, an RBI and scored a run. Kendra Highley and Demi Long each had a single and an RBI.
Michaela Miller took the loss on the mound going the distance and giving up 12 runs, and 15 hits, while striking out five batters and walking three.
Valley committed five errors in the contest. The Jills moved to 5-13 with the loss.
Miley Kiggans picked up the win for Frontier striking out 10, while giving up 11 runs and nine hits. The Cougars committed six errors and moved to 8-9 on the season with the win. Kenzie Livingston led the Cougars with three hits, and an RBI, while scoring three runs.
