The Blue Eagles hosted previously unbeaten Madonna Blue Dons on Monday evening March 30th, and beat the Dons 3-0.
The Eagles got a stellar pitching performance from freshman Ian Hedrick who went the distance for the shutout win. Hedrick was mixing his pitches well and struck out 11 Dons hitters, with no walks, while surrendering four hits.
The Dons had two runners on base in the top of the first inning following two singles with one out, but Hedrick struck out the next two batters to keep the visitors from scoring.
In the bottom of the first inning Magnolia’s Conner Carpenter drew a walk and stole second base with the catcher’s throw sailing into the outfield allowing Carpenter to move to third with one out. Freshman Trey Satow hit a slow grounder to third baseman who fired it home but Carpenter beat the throw for a 1-0 lead for the Eagles. That proved to be all the runs the Eagles needed.
Magnolia scored three runs, had three hits, three batters walked, seven batters went down on strikes, and stranded five base runners.
Jaxson Goddard and Hedrick each went 1-3 and a RBI apiece, and Kyrian Starkey went 1-2 for the home team. Magnolia improved to (2-2) on the season.
Madonna who dropped to (3-1)on the season had four hits, 0 runs, 11 strikeouts, and stranded five base runners.
Gray, Brooks, Kaczmarek, and Wingett each had a single for the Dons. Fuscardo suffered the loss on the mound for the Dons.
