25 Veterans Honored at Halftime

The River Pilots honored their senior players and alumni veterans Friday night October 8, 2021, hosting the Bridgeport Bulldogs at Martin Flannery Field with a trouncing of the visitors by a 50-14 score. It was not only honoring the five senior football players but also honoring alumni Veterans Appreciation Night. The ceremony was to honor our veterans for their sacrifices. A night to honor men and women who gave their all for this great country and for the freedoms we so enjoy.

River worn army camo jerseys in honor of our men and women serving our country.

The pregame Anthem was performed by the River Pilot and River Alumni Band and the presentation of the on-field flag was made by members of the volleyball and cross-country teams to a cadence by the Pilot Band.

River wasted little time getting the scoring started with talented junior Brody Lollathin carrying five yards for the first score, senior Zack Hocutt added the kick for a 7-0 Pilots lead.

Sophomore sensation quarterback Kabel Isaly accounted for the next three scores by passing to senior Brody Longwell for 17 yards, River Thompson 62 yards, and Longwell again for 50 yards for touchdowns. The talented Isaly had an efficient game passing the football by going 11-13 for 222 yards and three tds.

The Pilots would score 36 first half points on their way to the convincing victory with a Thompson fumble recovery in the end zone for the other hosts score before intermission to make it 36-0 going to the locker room.

A halftime ceremony honored the veterans with an official patriotic escort by the football team and a vocal performance by Miss Chloe Tucker. The veterans were presented a small token of appreciation. The 25 veterans present, including a World War II veteran, were honored by the football team and coaches, along with school and district officials. Taps was also performed by two alumni in honor of our fallen heroes.

River would tack on two more scores after the halftime break before playing the reserves most of second half. Senior Austin Creamer added a six-yard run and talented sophomore Finn Bowers capped off the scoring with a 10-yard tote.

The Pilots rushed for 263 yards led by Finn Bowers (8-70), Brody Lollathin (5-64) and Austin Creamer (11-52). Kabel Isaly threw for 222 yards on 11-13 and three touchdowns. Senior Longwell had two catches with both going for touchdowns of 17 and 50 yards.

Coach Mike Flannery’s defense held the visitors to 32 rushing yards on 15 carries and quarterback Jackson completed 9-14 for 155 yards and one td coming late in the game connecting for 72 yards to Aiden Tarr.

River improved to 4-4 and will travel to Conotton Valley Friday evening October 15th to battle the Rockets.
