Derby and Kuhn lead Lumberjacks over Beallsville
Visting Valley High School came into Friday nights game at Beallsville looking for their first win on the season and didn’t disappoint as they made the cross river trip worthwhile downing the Blue Devils 38-16 for an impressive win.
The Lumber jack reached paydirt first as they scored on in the first quarter on an eight yard run from freshman QB Gavin Derby. the pat failed and the visitors were up 6-0 with 5 plus minutes to go in the first. Beallsville however returned the favor by adding a 72 kickoff run for six by Perkins and getting the two point conversion run to take an 8-6 lead after one period.
From there Valley got tough and went on a scoring spree to add two more scores in the second quarter and another in the third for a 30-8 lead after three quarters play. Sr. Billy Kuhn went in from a yard out to put the Lumberjacks back up by six following a Derby to Sean Bates conversion toss for two.
Bates put six more on the board in the second quarter when he grabbed a 21 yard reception from Derby for the score. Pat Higginbotham caught the conversion pass from Derby to give them a 22-8 haltime lead.
The third quarter had Kuhn getting another one yard TD run for his second score of the night. Derby carried it in for the two point conversion. The Lumberjacks final socore of the night came in the fourth quarter when Tristan Bates picked of a Blue Devil pass attempt and returned it 38 yards to paydirt.
The Derby to Higginbotham conversion pass made it 38-8, with time running down. Beallsville added another score on a 43 yard run by Louden, who also carried it in for the conversion points to make the final 38-16.
The Lumberjacks had 10 first downs in the contest and 238 yards rushing on 32 carries. Kuhn was the leading ball carrier with 109 yards on 19 totes.
Valley will return to action on Friday in a home contest against South Harrison with a 7 p.m. start.
