River High School Gets Win Over Monroe Central
Homestanding River had little trouble finding the endzone on Friday night as they cruised past visiting Monroe Central y the scor eof 48-26 before a packed house in Hannibal.
The Pilots went up 14-0 in the first quarter as Sophomore QB Kaleb Isley picked up where he left off last week with a scoring toss of 11 yards to Brody Longwell to light up the board and later in the frame found River Thompson on a 17 yarder with Honeycut adding both extra points kicks. Following a three and out by the Seminoles in the second quarter River added another score when Austin Creamer scampered six yards for 6 points and Honeycut split the upright to give the Pilots a 21-0 advantage.
Monroe Central got on the board in a big way soon after as Rose-Burton ripped off a 78 yard touchdown run, breaking a few tackles along the way to make it 21-6 after the two point run failed. That’s the way the score stood at the half.
Following the opening second half kickoff River got on the board again on a five yard run by Brody Lollathin amd Honeycut was again true to the mark for the point after to make it 28-6. The Seminoles answered back with a Rose-Burton 6 yard toss to Lincoln and the pair teamed up for the two point conversion pass leaving the score at 28-14.
The third quarter scoring wasn’t over yet however as River added another six when Austin Creamer went in from 15 yards out for his second of four rushing T.D.’s on the night. The extra point attempt was blocked and River had a 34-12 lead. Monroe Central picked up another quick score on a nice drive ending in a five yard pass from Rose-Burton to Lincoln making it 34-20 after a failed two point conversion try.
River went on to put two more scores on the board in the fourth quarter on 1 yard and 2 yard runs by Creamer and Hoeycutt getting both extra point kicks.
The Seminoes added another score in the fourth when Rose-Burton rambled 54 yards untouched for six to end the scoring on the night.
Overall River picked up 391 yards on the ground with Austin Creamer getting 212 and four T.D.’s on 20 carries and brother Avery Creamer adding 89 on 8 totes. Isaly added 39 on eight carries and Lollathin picked up 50 yards and a T.D. on eight carries.
Isley was 11-21 passing for 177 yards and two scores. Thompson had five recptions for 52 yards and a score, while Longwell grabbed two passes for 12 yards and a score. Lollathin and Creamer both had two recptions. River led in first downs 17-7 and was penalized 5-40 yards.
The 2-1 Pilots travel across the River this week for a match up with rival Magnolia with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
