Monroe Central Tops River in Volleyball Action
Monroe Central took down the Pilots in straight sets on Thursday night September 2, in Hannibal winning by the scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-10. River played tough but the Seminoles who have been on a run lately never faltered in icking up their fourth win in the past four nights.
The Pilots will be on the road tonight in a battle with the Bulldogs of Bridgeport starting at 5:30
Pilots fall to Purple Riders
River put up a good battle on Tuesday night August 31, in Hannibal, but fell in four sets to Martins Ferry in girls volleyball action. In set one the Pilots got the win with a late game surge to go up 1-0 25-22. After a back and forth affair most of the contest River came from one down to score the final four points for the victory. Set two was another close one with the lead changing hands four times before the visitors finally took control late for a 25-2 win.
The third set was even tighter as the teams continued to battle with lead changes eight times. However with the score tied at 24-24, Martins Ferryscored the next two points to get the overtime win 26-24 and take a 2-1 lead in the best of five series.
The Pilots started out on top 3-1, but Ferry came back for a 6-4 lead on their way to a 25-17 win to take the match 3-1.
Leading the way for the Pilots was Rilyn Haught and Chloe Honeycut with eight kills each. Hannah Raper smashed down five kills, and had six digs, while Kami Todd offered up 14 assists. Kiley Wagnild hit the floor for 10 digs.
