Sophomore Isley Leads River To Victory Over Marietta
Sophomore Quarterback Kabel Isley scored early on a six yard juant to paydirt and the PAT was good to give the River Pilots a 7-0 lead after one quarter play on Friday night in Hannibal.
However, the scoring for River was far from over as Isley hooked with his two favorite receivers Brody Lollathin for three scores and Brody Longwell for another to propell the Pilots to a 35-14 win over the visiting Marietta Tigers.
Each team scored twice in the second quarter with River striking first on a 72 yard pass and run play from Isley to Lollathin with Hocutt adding his second PATof the night to put the Pilots up 14-0. Marietta went to air for their initial score when Lieras-Kelley connected with Gerber for 60 yards and a score to draw the visitors to winin seven following the point after.
Isley and Lollathin came right back teaming up on another big play as Lollathin hauled in a 59 yard pass from Isley to give the home team a 14 point advantage following Hocutt’s third straight extra point kick. Not to be outdone the Tigers followed suite with Lieras-Kelley and Gerber covering 43 yards for a score on a pass and run, with the point after once again good to take the teams into the locker room with the Pilots on top 21-14.
Following the break the second half was all River as they put two more scores on the board on pass plays from Isley to Lollathin and Brody Longwell. In the third quarter Islay connected with Lolathin for his third T.D. reception covering 23 yards to push the lead to 28-14.
While Longwell hauled one in for 22 yards and a score in the fourth quarter to make it 35-14 following Hocutt’s fifth PAT on the night.
River ended with 50 yards rushing on 20 attempts with Isley gaining 17 on 11 totes and a score, Avery Creamer picked up 12 yards on two carries, while Austin Creamer added 26 yards on three totes.
Lollathin also picked up 17 yards on the ground on four tries. Passing the Pilots gained 329 yards all by Isley good for four T.D.’s.
Receiving the Pilots were led by Lollathin with seven snags for 190 yards and three scores, Longwell with eight grabs for 94 yards and a touchdown, and Thompson with five receptions for 31 yards. Av. Creamer pulled in one catch for seven yards.
The Pilots led in first downs 11-10 and total yardage 379-248. River moves to 1-1 on the season with the win, while the Tigers fall to 0-2.
The Pilots will host Monroe Central Friday starting at 7:30. On September 10 the Pilots will travel across the River for the big showdown against Magnolia.
