Gaudino Memorial Junior Golf Tournament
The inaugural Nick Gaudino Memorial Junior Golf Tournament will be held at the cozy Wheeling Park Golf Course on Tuesday, July 20.
This will be a 9 hole event with six different divisions. Registration the day of the event will begin at noon. First groups will tee off at approximately 12:45.
Mr. Gaudino was a resident of Triadelphia, WV who caddied in his teenage years at Wheeling Park Golf Course.
He was drafted to serve in the army in WWII and made four amphibious landings in the south pacific. In his fourth landing, he was seriously wounded resulting him being multiply handicapped throughout the rest of his life. He spent nearly four years recovering in an Army hospital.
After his release from the hospital and the service, he played golf (mostly one handed) for more than 30 years as a member of the Wheeling Park and Oglebay Golf Clubs.
There are separate divisions for boys and girls at the 12th grade and under, 9th grade and under and 7th grade and under levels.
Trophies will be presented for 1st place and medals for 2nd & 3rd place
This tournament is being offered by Oglebay/Wheeling Park to further increase the interest in golf by the youth of the Ohio Valley.
Pizza and pop will be provided for all participants at the conclusion of the event.
General rules for the event include:
1) Players will play from tees appropriate for their grade level.
2) Grades 7th grade and under can ride a cart with their parents(must pay cart fee), all other players must carry their own bag (or use pull cart).
3) Maximum 9 strokes per hole.
4) Preferred lies will be played for all grade levels.
