Madonna Wins Sectional Over Magnolia Blue Eagles

Magnolia took a quick lead in the top of the first inning against Madonna at Wheeling 1-470 fields in a Region 1 Section 1 title game on Tuesday night, June 8. The Blue Eagles got on the board when Shyanna White double to knock in leadoff batter Haidyn Bland to draw first blood. However, the Blue Dons answered right back scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning and four more in the bottom of the second to take control on their way to a 9-2 victory sending them to the state tournament.

Magnolia added a run in the top of the fourth but that was all the scoring they could muster, while Madonna added another in the bottom of the sixth for their final run. Madonna ended the game with 12 hits while the Blue Eagles had eight. Magnolia hurt their own cause with four errors to Madnna’s zero.

Bone was the winning pitcher for Madonna recording nine strikeouts and giving up three walks. Postlethwait took the loss for the visitors with one k, and four walks. Bland had three singles for the Blue Eagles with an RBI, while White doubled knocking in a runm and Fluharty added two singles.

Blue Eagles advance to Sectional Championship with win over Central

The Magnolia Blue Eagles turned it up a notch in their matchup with Wheeling Central on Monday, June 7, at the 1-470 complex in Wheeling, to claim a six inning 13-5 win over the Maroon Knights and move on to the Region 1 Section 1 championships against Weirton Madoona.

The Blue Eagles started the contest in a big way gaining the lead 5-0 after two innings, but the Knights fought back in the thirs with five runs in the top of the inning to tie the contest.

Magnolia however, scored the next seven runs over in the fourtm fifth and sixth to get the win in a mercy rule win after six.

Karissa Postlethwait picked up the win for the home team Eagles going the distance with six strikeouts and two walks, while giving up seven hits. Beagle took the loss for Central with two strikeouts and a walk. She gave up 12 hits to the hot Blue Eagles.

Haidyn Bland had a big day at the plate with four hits and a pair of RBI. Emma Stelle’s had a two run single in the first inning and later added another RBI. Postlethwait helped her own cause with two singles and an RBI, including the game winner.

Sydney Scott knocked in three runs with a single and Madeline Delaney drilled a double.
