Magnolia Falls to Central in Sectional game
For the second night in a row, Magnolia took to the road for a region 1 section 1 softball action. After defeating Hundred on Wednesday the Blue found a tougher opponent on Thursday in Wheeling Central who took the Blue down in seven inning 7-1.
Magnolia held its own for the first two innings as neither team could dent the scoreboard. However, the visiting team Maroon Knights sent three runners across the plate in the third and four in the fourth for a commanding 7-0 lead. Magnolia added a run in the bottom of the sixth, but that was as close as they could get to the final score of 7-1.
For Central Shayna Beegle was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and five walks, Postlethwait took the loss for the Blue with two k’s and two walks, Olivia Stine came on in relief in the third. Magnolia could only get two hits on the night, while the Maroon Knights collected 11. Central had three errors to Magnolia’s one.
Magnolia downs Hundred in Region 1 Section 1 Softball
The Blue Eagles took on Hundred on Wednesday night in Wheeling at the 1-470 complex in a Region 1 first round softball tournament game with the Blue Eagles as the home team.
Hundred failed to score in the first inningm and Magnolia set the stage early for what would be a five inning mercy rule contest.
The Blue Eagles pushed five runs across the plate in the bottom of the first to take control, and added four more in the third and the fourth to go up 13-0 heading into the top of the fifth.
The Eagles shut the Hornets out allowing only one hit over the course of the game while collecting five of their own. Hundred committed three errors in the contest to none for the Blue Eagles.
Karisa Postlethwait got the win, while combining with Olivia Stine on a one hitter. Haidyn Bland knocked in two runs for the Eagles with a hard drilled single. Leading the way was Emma Steele with a single, double and an RBI. Shyanna White also cracked a single for the Blue Eagles.
