Valley Girls Finish Season with Loss to Madonna

By Rick Loy - Staff Writer | Apr 21, 2021

The Valley girls traveled to Weirton Tuesday evening, April 13, 2021 to battle the Madonna Blue Dons in the sectionals and lost by a 56-30 score to finish out the season. The Jills ended the season with a 3-12 record.

“With all the adversity we have endured this season with injuries and Covid-19, we did have some bright spots in our young underclassmen to help us next year,” said coach Kasey Sapp. “We only graduate one senior in Rachel Bates, who has been a valuable leader to our team, and she will be missed. Hopefully we get Reagan Dallison back from an injury that kept her sidelined this entire year. Others returning will include Addison Brown, Shyanne Moore, Kim Soles, Winter Higgins, Evi Booher, Madyson Barnette, Hannah Bassett, Charity Bates, Olivia Ash, and incoming freshman. We should have a good nucleus to begin the next season. The girls have been fun to coach and are already looking forward to next year.”

Valley had one player in double figures, Rachel Bates with 10 points. Bates had another double-double which has been the case all season.

Madonna players in double figures were Vanessa Alatis with a game high 17 points to lead the way, Jazzy Melnyk chipped in 13, and Alaina Moore added 11 markers for the victorious Blue Dons who move on to Sectional Championship game with Cameron.
