St. Marys Nip the Blue Eagles in Softball

Host St. Marys on Friday evening April 16, 2021 beat the visiting Magnolia Blue Eagles 6-5 to drop the Lady Eagles to 2-2 on the season. It was a hard-fought battle with the Lady Devils. Des Taylor knocking in the winning run in the bottom half of the seventh inning gave the home squad the victory.

Magnolia tied the game with two runs in top of the seventh inning before the Devils scored in bottom half for the win.

The Lady Eagles were led in hitting by Oliva Stine collecting three hits, Haiden Bland added two singles, and Isabella Connor had e two losses have both came only on a one run deficient to two quality opponents.

The Blue Devils were led by Des Taylor with two hits, and Mahayla Nichols added a triple and single. Elle Smith picked up the victory on the mound for the host Devils.two hits and scored two runs. Karisa Postlethwait suffered another tough loss on the mound for Coach Angela Schmalz’s Lady Eagles.

Down Central in Five

The Magnolia Lady Blue Eagles made the trip up to I-470 Complex Thursday night, April 15, 2021 to battle the Wheeling Central Maroon Knights and coasted to a 11-1 victory in five innings. Coach Angela Schmalz’s Lady Eagles improved the record to 2-1 on the young season.

The Eagles got a strong pitching effort from Karisa Postlethwait allowing the Knights one-hit and only one run on the night. Postlethwait helped herself from the plate with three hits, including two doubles, single, and scored two runs.

Shyanna White added two hits with a double, and single and scored twice. Oliva Stine picked up two singles and two runs for the victorious Lady Blue Eagles.

Wheeling Central got a single from Miller that came around to score the Knights only run of the game.

Shadyside in Softball

Magnolia Lady’s Softball team hosted the Shadyside Tigers on Tuesday evening April 13, 2021 at the Hydro Fields and dropped a close decision to the Tigers 6-5.

The visitors scored a run in the first inning to lead 1-0 until the Lady Eagles plated two scores in the fourth inning to take the lead. It was a short-lived lead because Shadyside scored three runs in the top of the fifth to pull back in front 4-2. In the bottom half of the fifth the hosts would knot the score at four, scoring two runs. The game stayed tied until the top of seventh inning when the Tigers tallied two more runs for a 6-4 lead going to the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Eagles could only muster one run to make the final 6-5 for the visiting Tigers.

Haiden Bland, Karisa Postlethwait, Shyanna White, Kirsten Francis, Maddie Delaney all added two hits apiece. Emma Steele, Isabella Conner, and Natalie Fletcher chipped in with a single each.

Shadyside was led by Brown with two hits, a double and a single, while Baker added two singles for the Lady Tigers.

Karisa Postlethwait suffered the tough loss on the mound and the Lady Eagles fall to 1-1 on the season.

Opener Over Frontier

Coach Angela Schmalz’s Lady Eagles opened the 2021 season in fashion on April 12, 2021 at Hydro Field against the visiting Frontier Cougars with a 13-6 victory.

Karisa Postlethwait was strong on the mound striking out nine Cougars hitters on the way to the Eagles victory.

The Lady Eagles were led at the plate by Kirsten Francis with three hits, Shyanna White added a double and single, Maddie Delaney and Haiden Bland had two singles each, and adding one hit apiece were Sydney Scott, Karisa Postlethwait, Isabella Conner, and Oliva Stine for the victorious host.

Frontier was led by a big night from Rinard with four hits, three singles and a double.
