Magnolia wins Two, Loses Two on The Week
Mady Winters hammered down 10 kills and got three defensive blocks to lead the Blue Eagles past Parkersburg in a recent quad match. The Eagles won the match in two straight sets 25-13 and 25-20. Winters also served up four points and had 10 digs. Jaci Rhode provided support with six kills, 10 digs, six service points and two blocks, while Victoria Hood added six points from the service line and seven smashes around the net, plus five digs and two blocks.
Alyssa Kocher ended with 31 assists and 17 digs, while serving up four points. Lenieca Grimm served seven points and added two kills and five digs. Shy White also made the stat sheet with five kills, one dig, one block and one point.
Against Parkersburg South Magnolia had a tough time in the first set and fell 13-25 to the Patriots, however the Blue came back strong to take the next to sets 25-16 and 25-21 to get the win. Winters was to much at the net for the Patriots as she slammed down 14 big time kills and contolled the net play with eight defensive blocks. She added two points on serves and one dig. Shy White provided good backup support at the net with seven kills and a block, while adding two service points and two digs.
Lenieca Grimm had a big day with 31 assists and eight points from the line, with two ace shots, while adding three kills and three digs. Jaci Kocher served up six points and had four kills and two digs, Hood got five points, with an ace, plus three kills and three digs. Alyssa Kocher kocked in two points from the line and ended with a match high 13 digs. Shaela Holiday got a block and Lauren Gaiser got two digs.
In the match with Cabell Midland the Blue Eagles took the loss in two straight sets 20-25 and 14-25. Lenieca Grimm with 20 Assists and a kill led the charge, while Winters with six kills, three service points and an ace provided support. Hood served up five points, with three aces and hit down four kills, while Rohde with eight servoce points, two aces, six kills, three blocks and one dig, kept the Blue Eagles close in the first set. Shy White with two points from the line and two kills also made the stat sheet.
Blue Eagles fall in OVAC semi-finals to Fort Frye
Magnolia made a strong showing on their home floor in the OVAC semi-final match with Ohio power Fort Frye, but faltered in set five to drop the match after coming back to win sets three and four. Fort Frye won the first set behind some great team play 22-25, and then took control in set two with a 16-25 win to go on top 2-0. Magnolia however stepped up their game in set three and got a 26-24 overtime win. They then won set four 25-21 to force a set five.
In the final set the visitors from Ohio opened up a quick lead and never looked back to gain the spot in the Championship match scheduled for Saturda, October 17. For the Blue Eagles Winters was the big gun giving Fort Frye fits with her hard kills that had the visitors dodging. She ended with 33 shots from the net and played tough defense with 15 blocks. She also added 15 digs, four service points and one ace. Backing Winters was senior Victoria Hood who added 13 kills and five blocks. She added four points and eight digs.
Lenieca Grimm finished a big night with 42 assists and four digs, while leading from the service line with 10 points. Alyssa Kocher hit the floor for 20 digs and three serves. Shy White offered five points from the line, and five kills five digs, two blocks and an ace. Jaci Rhode served up eight points including two aces and had four kills and five digs. Julia Lilze got two digs and Shaela Holiday had one dig.
