By Staff | Jul 7, 2020

Mady Winters is shown slamming one to the floor in a volleyball match.

Magnolia High School Volleyball, Basketball, and Track senior star athlete, Mady Winters has verbally committed to continue her volleyball career at Division II power, Wheeling University. Mady entertained offers from several other schools for both basketball and volleyball but wanted to stay close to home. She will be following in her brother Mark’s footsteps going to Wheeling University. Mark was a four-year member of the Cardinals basketball team.

Winters is the youngest of the family having three older brothers, Mark, Mike, and Mitch that were all athletes at Magnolia High School. Mady was always in the gym when her brothers were playing, while working on her own skills. She definitely knows the game and has been around it since an young age.

She is dedicated and works on her skills constantly to get better. Mady will be a great addition to the Cardinals program.

The Wheeling Cardinals are a Division II powerhouse and are Coached by Christy Benner who has a record of 602-120 during her coaching tenure.

The Cards have reached the Atlantic Regionals 14 times, while winning seven. They also have two appearances in the Final Four, winning the National Championship in 2015. Last years team got 30-wins for the 13th straight year.

Mady will be competing in volleyball, basketball, and track her senior season at Magnolia if the Covid-19 pandemic doesn’t force the WVSSAC to shut down fall sporting events. Hopefully, Winters and all other athletes will have an opportunity to compete their senior seasons.

She excels in basketball and was selected to the All-State team. She was state champion in the shot put and discus during the state track meet her sophomore season.

The Magnolia senior is currently conditioning in volleyball and basketball. She is still rehabbing the knee, but everything is going well and Mady is looking forward to her final year as a Blue Eagle.

With the decision of her future off her shoulders, she will be able to concentrate on the upcoming season. Mady is also an excellent student in the classroom.

Enjoy your senior season as a Blue Eagle, Mady. Good luck in the future at Wheeling University. There is no doubt you will excel on and off the court.
