Lady Wildcats Take Care of ’Dogs
It took an extra session effort, but the Wildcats did what it needed on Monday night, Febreuary 3, on their home floor to overcome the Bridgeport Bulldogs and get the OVAC playoff win 47-45 for their second straight win and improve their record to 6-11.
Paden City went ahead early and led 8-2 after one period, but the Bulldogs fought back to take an 18-15 haltime lead. The Cats outscored the visitors 16-10 in the third before Bridgeport tied it up at the end of regulation. Paden City took the extra period 9-7 to get the win.
Senior guard Abbe Stackpole scored a team high 2o points for the Cats with four field goals and an 11-16 showing from the free throw line. She had ample support in the game from McKenzie Thomas who added 11 points incluing a 3-pointer, while also grabbing a game high 11 rebounds for a double-double. Tanley McEldowney tossed in seven points including a three and was 2-2 from the line. Skylar Fulks netted five markers and Raven Fulks hit for four. Brooke Hoskins added a point with a free throw.
Overall the Wildcats hit 15 field goals and made 15-22 free throws. Bridgeport had the games top scorer in Tucker with 28 points while Tabor added eight. Thye ended with 15 field goals but made 10-16 free throws.
“Raven Fulks has been exceptional rebounding and played like she should have been playing all year. Abbe did an excellent job scoring tinight and played very well overall. Tanley did a very good job defensively. McKenzie runs the floor well and makes big plays. Skylar shot the ball well and Brynna and Brooke both play good defense and run the floor well,” said coach Alan Miller.
