Knights Hold Off Eagles
The Magnolia Blue Eagles over came a 20-point deficit and got to within 9-points in the fourth period, but just ran out of time in a 76-65 loss to the Wheeling Central Maroon Knights Feb. 4, inside the Knights Gymnasium.
Wheeling Central grabbed a 15-8 first quarter lead, but couldn’t break away from the Blue Eagles in the second period as the visitors had 4-players score buckets, while shooting 11-free throws, and only making six, as both teams hit for 14 in the second period sending the home team to a 29-22 lead at the break.
However, the Maroon Knights pushed their advantage to 20-points in the third period, but the Eagles Qwailei Turner knocked down 7-points, while Jake Gamble and Chase Glover each accounted for 4-points, but the Maroon Knights held a 49-34 lead heading into the fourth period.
The two teams combined for 47-points in the final period, with Gamble scoring 16 of the Eagles 26-points, while Trevor Williamson adding 5-points, and Glover hiting his second triple of the night.
Gamble had a team-high 25-points, while Turner followed with 15-points and Glover came off the bench to score 10-points.
In addition, Williamson added 7-points, while Trenton Scheibelhood and Levi Cecil each tallied 4-markers for all the Blue Eagle scoring.
Ryan Reasbeck led all-scorers with 30-points, while J.C. Maxwell added 20-markers to pace the Maroon Knights.
With the win, Wheeling Central pushed their record to 13-6 and will play — in the OVAC Class-2A, while Magnolia drops to 12-4 looks to take on Union Local in the OVAC Class-3A final 4 top teams in their respective OVAC classes,
