Foursome earn top honors
It was a no-brainer this week as a trio Magnolia Blue Eagles, along with a Lumberjill athletes are this weeks Athletes of the Week.
The Eagles Jacob “Jake” Gamble, Qwailei “Q” Turner along with James Stillwagoner are runaway winners for the boys, while the Lumberjills Rachel Bates are the girls winners.
“Jake” swished a career-high 7-baskets from beyond the arch to go along with 30-points and 10-rebounds, while “Q” followed with 19-points, including a pair of dunks, while grabbing 11-rebounds in their huge win over the River Pilots.
Stillwagner recorded his 100th wrestling victory over the weekend at St Marys, and is undefeated in 21-bouts this season was a shoe-in.
Bates had a pair of double-doubles as she recorded 12-points and grabbed 20-rebounds, and rejecting 2-shots in a 1-point loss to Tygarts Valley, while collecting 10-points and hauling in 11-rebounds and also rejecting 2-shots in a win over Clay-Battelle.
Only area athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley are eligible to win the athlete of the week, and can only do it one time, until they reach playoffs as well as conference tournaments.
We also will try to pick the most improved player from each school, week after week, too.
The Hornets Sydney Duckworth is this weeks most improved player. She scored a season-high 18-points, that included five baskets from beyond the arch in a match-up with rival Clay-Battelle.
