Foursome Earn Top Honors
This past week, the Magnolia Blue Eagles senior forward and Concord University-bound Kyndra Pilant secured a double-double in 3-straight games, starting with 26-points and 16-rebounds in helping the Blue Eagles win their first game of the season to Charleston Catholic in the first game of the Undo’s Round-ball Classic inside the WesBanco Arena.
Pilant also knocked down a double-double in a loss to Wheeling Central in the Undo’s championship tilt with 14-points and 12-rebounds. She finished 2019 with her third straight double-double when she scored 25-points and pulled down 13-rebounds in a win over Tyler Consolidated on Dec. 30.
The Valley Lumberjacks Ryan Baker, fresh-off a broken wrist, also secured the Athlete of the Week award. He scored 25-points, including 11-11 at the free throw line to help his team defeat Paden City.
Holland Estep is our pick for improved most improved player as she scored 8-points and swatted away 4-shots in the Blue Eagles win over Charleston Catholic.
The Hundred Hornets Sydney Duckworth is also a most improved athlete. She scored a career-high 19-points, including 5-baskets from beyond the arch to help Hundred defeat Jefferson Morgan.
Only area athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River, and Valley are eligible to win the Athlete of the Week honors, and can only do it one time, until they reach playoffs as well as conference tournaments.
We also will try to pick the most improved player from each school, week after week, too.
