Dragons Torch Lumberjacks, 70-49

The Lumberjacks took to the road on Monday, December 30, for a high school boys basketball matchup with the Cameron Dragons, looking for their last win of 2019, but the Dragons decided otherwise and celebrated a 21 point win 70-49.

Valley and Cameron played nearly even in the first quarter with the Dragons taking a one point advantage 16-15 into the second frame, but that’s when they changed course and moved ahead for an 11 point halftime lead.

The second half didn’t get much easier as the Dragons maintained their lead and added 10 more points to the deficit to get the win. Leading the way for the home team were four players who hit in double figures with Zane Clutter leading the way with a game high 23 points. Teammates Jessop Broughton and Noah Neely added 12 and 11 points respectiviely, while sophomore Trevor Beresford also connected on 11 in a good performance off the bench.

The Lumberjacks had three players reach double digits in the losing cause with Levi Anderson netting 16, Ryan Baker 15, and Abe Satterfield adding 11. Gavin Streets tossed in six points on three baskets and Walker Bassett added one point on a free throw. The Jacks got four 3-pointers from Satterfield and two from Baker, however they also gave up six to the Dragons. Valley ent 6-13 from the free throw line and made 18 baskets overall in the loss, while the Dragons hit for 30 field goals and was 3-6 at the line.

The Lumberjacks played at South Harrison last night and their next game will be at Magnolia on Tuesday, January 14, followed by Friday and Saturday games in the Tyler Consolidated tournament.
