By Staff | Dec 31, 2019

Valley’s Troy Satterfield goes to the free throw line after being fouled in a recent game with Tyler Consolidated

Tyler Consolidated gave coach Steve Nutter an early Christmas present on Monday, December 23, in Pine Grove as they manhandled Valley 78-54 for Nutters 100th victory as head coach.

Valley started the game with a long three pointer by senior Troy Satterfield for the Lumberjacks only lead of the night. From there the Silver Knights got a jumper from Mark Rucker, and a three from Gage Huffman to go on an 13 point run before the Lumberjacks hit a few buckets to close the opening quarter with Tyler on top 22-16.

Valley started out with a bucket in the second and drew to within four on baskets by Gavin Streets and Tommy Shannon to make it 26-22, but the Silver Knights cranked things up behind a jumper from Huffman and two straight drives through the lane by Rucker for a 16 point lead that ballooned to 23 at the end of the third quarter.

Huffman put on a clinic hitting two nice nothing but net 3-pointers, while using a combination of short pull up in your face jumpers and quick hard drives to the basket on his way to a game high 26 points. He also added five steals, six rebounds and three blocks.

Rucker was equally effective with his 16 points including two 3’s and a 4-4 showing from the free throw line. He also led the team in rebounds with 12 for a double-double and added six steals and three assists.

Freshman Caleb Strode stood tall with nine points, six rebounds and a 3-4 free throw effort. Sophomore Noah Swiger added seven points and five rebounds, Zack Placer hit for six points while picking up three steals.

Justin Bowman blocked two shots and had five points and Haygen Baker hit a 3-pointer.

Junior Guard David Throckmorton hit a bucket and made 2-4 free throws for four points.

The Lumber jacks were led by junior ace Gavin Streets with 15 points including 7-10 free throws. Abe Satterfield finished a nice nights work with 13 markers including 2 3-pointers. Senior Jakeb Hall added nine points and made two long balls, while Logan Bassett hit four buckets for eight points. Tommy Shannon finished with six points in support and Jacob Anderson canned a 3-pointer.

The Silver Knights win was extra special as they handed their second year coach Steve Nutter his 100th career victory. “
