Dragons Edge Hornets 73-, 72
The Cameron Dragons out-scored Hundred 30-11 in the second period and held-off a determined Hornets squad to claim a hard-fought 73-72 victory in a mutral season-opener Dec. 10 inside the Hornets Nest.
The Hornets out-scored their guests, 19-13 in the opening period with Cody Soles and Travis Norris scoring 10 and 6-points, respectively to lead the charge.
However, the Dragons went on a 30-11 run in the second period to go on top, 43-30 at the break. Soles paced the Hornets with 5-5 from the charity stripe, while the Hornets swished 4-three’s, including two from Zane Clutter who netted 12-points in the quarter.
In the second half, the Hornets were on fire and out-scored their guests, 42-30, but just ran out of time. Norris provided the bulk of the Hornets scoring with 19-second half points, and Soles with 11-markers.
Norris led all-scorers with 27-points, including a triple, while Soles recorded a double-double with 26-points and 10-rebounds. Aaron Stephens tallied 7-points, with one 3-ball, while brother grabbed 4-rebounds. Robert Hostutler followed with 5-points, while Martin Baker netted 4-points, and Eli Geho tickled the twine from beyond the arch.
The Dragons Jessop Broughton recorded 24-points, with 3-triples, while Noah Neely and Clutter provided 17 and 13-points respectively.
The Hornets were 12-16 from the charity line, while the Dragons netted 7-12.
