Pilots Pounce On Cougars in Finale
After spotting the Frontier Cougars 6-points on a 49-yard pass reception from Breckin Hoff, the visiting River Pilots scored 21 unanswered points in the first quarter, en-route to a 48-12 triumph in a regular-season prep football finale Friday night.
Carter Dennis scored twice on a 5-yard and 38-yard run, while Michael Johnson added a 32-yard run, along with 3-Zack Hocutt PAT-boots to take a 21-6 first quarter lead.
Each team scored a touchdown in the second period, with Hoff grabbing a 10-yarder for six for the home team, while Johnson tacked his second rushing TD and a Hocutt boot in the second period for a 28-12 River Pilot lead at the break.
Dennis opened the third period with a 55-yard touchdown scamper and a Brody Longwell 45-yard interception return and 2-more Hocutt boots to push the Pilot lead to 42-12 with one quarter remaining in the regular season-finale.
Avery Creamer put the final touches on a 48-12 win with a nice 6-yard run on a 6-4 season for the Pilots.
The Pilots was led by Carter Dennis, who rushed for 216 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns, while Michael Johnson totaled 113-yards on 13-carries and 2-TDs, and Stone Thompson finished with 100-yards passing on 11 attempts.Also scoring for the Pilots were Avery Creamer and Brody Longwell.
Overall, River rushed for 377 yards, while the Cougars totaled 85-yards. In the passing department, Thompson was 7-11 for 100-yards, while the Cougars J.D. Schmidt tallied 211-yards and a TD on 10 completions and 2-interceptions, while Lane Snyder connected on his only pass a attempt for 48-yards and a score.
Frontier’s Breckin Hoff made four receptions for 93-yards and two touchdowns, while Logan Brookover hauled in 4-passes for 60-yards. The Pilots moved the chains 17-times, while Frontier had a dozen. The Pilots also had 8-infractions for 70-lost yards, while Frontier made 3-miscues for 30=lost yards.
The Pilots Ethan Lollathin rushed for 21-yards on 2-carries. Jake Rose caught a pass for 14-yards, while Colton Lawrence tacked on 25-yards on 2-grabs. Dennis hauled in a couple for 25-yards, while Johnson hauled in 1-pass for 7-yards.
Defensively for the Pilots, senior Heath Rosen ended his career with 10 tackles with one for loss of yardage. Dennis and Austin Creamer each made 9-stops, with 1-tackle for loss of yardage, while Avery Creamer made 8-tackles, and Chase Lawrence six.
