Knights Take Down Blue Eagles

The Lady Blue Eagles Kyndra Pilant launched 40-kills and blocked 7-shots that landed for points, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights in 5-sets Oct. 17 inside the TCHS Gymnasium.

In the opening set, the Silver Knights raced out to a 4-1 lead and led 12-9 before the Lady Eagles behind 3-consecutive Pilant kills to knot things up at 12-12. From this point Tyler and Magnolia ties each other 8 more times with the last coming at 25-25.

The Knights thought they had won the game at 25-23, but the referee on the floor by the benches called the Knights in the net, to give Magnolia the point, and tie the set at 24-24. The Eagles would take advantage a little later with 2-straight Pilant kills to win the opening set, 27-25.

There were 9-ties in the match, with the Eagles getting their first lead at 22-21.

In the second set there were 6-ties, with the last one was at 23-23 on a Shaela Holiday block for the Eagles. But, the Knights broke serve on a nice long volley that each team making unbelievable saves. The Knights Caleigh Phillips serve touched nothing but on the Eagles side of the floor for an ace.

In the third set, there were 8-ties once more, with the last one coming at 23-23 when the Silver Knights broke serve, and scored the next 2 volley’s to take a 2-1 lead in the best of five sets.

In the fourth set, the Eagles raced out to a 4-0 lead, and extended it to 23-17, before the Knights closed the gap to 23-19, before Liza “Bean” Clegg smacked one of her 12-kills to break serve, and Allyssa Kocher served up the final points to head into the tie-breaker.

Pilant had 3-blocks that scored, and added 5-kills, while Clegg pitched in with 3-kills, and Lenecca Grimm and Zoey Jenkins each landing services aces.

In the tie-breaker, Kocher served up the first 2-points, with Pilant rejecting a Knight shot at the net. However, the Knights came soaring back and knotted the game 4-different times ending it at 7-7, that saw an Eagle being grounded for blood on her elbow.

The Knights saw an opening and took advantage of it and scored 8 of the final 10-points to win the match.

Pilant landed 40-kills, while adding 4-points with 3-aces, 7-blocks and 10-digs to pace the visitors. Grimm provided 59-assists, scored 4-points with 3-aces, and 1-block, while Clegg scored 5-points and 12-kills. Kocher and Jenkins served up 19-points, 12-digs with Jenkins adding an assist and 2-aces.

In addition, Anderson recorded a match-high 40-digs, while Jaci Rhode recorded 5-kills. Holiday finished the night with 4-kills, 1-block and 1-assist, while Kara Lynch collected 4-digs and dished out an assist.

Regan Smith paced the Knights with a quartet, (27-assists, 23-kills, 11-points and 10-digs), while adding 6-blocks. Phillips also had a good night for the Lady Knights with 26-kills, 25-assists, 3-blocks and 3-points. In addition, Allie Miller and Sadie Thompson had 18 and 17-digs, respectively.

Blue Eagles overpower Wirt County

The Blue Eagles flexed their muscle against Wirt County on Monday, October 14, in New Martinsville as they took down the Tigers 25-14, 18-25, 25-15, and 25-23 in prep volleyball action. The Eagles were led by senior Kyndra Pilant who controlled the net hammering down 25 kills on the visitors and serving up nine points including 4-Aces. She also had 10 digs and three assists for her nights work.

Lenica Grimm had a solid night as well with 40 assists and five points. Zoey Jenkins was on her game as the senior backrow player served up nine points and hit the floor for eight digs to help the Blue Eagles to the win. Alyssa Kocher added nine points and eight digs to offer support.

Kayna Anderson came through woth 20 assists, nine points and five aces, while Liza Clegg got four points and eight digs. Jaci Rhode added five kills as the Blue Eagles moved to 16-8-1 on the season.
