Straub Leads River Past Bellaire in Five Sets

  • River Pilot senior Katie Straub had a match to remember Tuesday, Sept. 17 inside the RL Potts Gymnasium, scoring a triple-double 17-points with 6-aces, 13-kills and 19-digs in leading the River Pilots to a 25-22, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-22 exciting victory over the Bellaire Big Reds.

The Pilots Allison Bennett dished out 39-assists, while bumping up 7-digs and scoring 8-points, with 3-service aces. Along with Straub and Bennett, Lacey Cordery is also having a very good senior season to this point, collected 28-digs, 5-points with 3-aces and 2-back row kills.

Myla Ivey filled the stat sheet with 2-points, 3-blocks, 8-kills and 16-digs, while Hannah Raper provided 6-kills and just as many digs, 2-blocks and 1-assist. Emily Taylor made 11-digs, scored 7-points with 2-aces, and 1-kill, while Katie Rufener tacked on 4-points, with 1-ace, 2-digs and passed out an assist.

In addition, Rilyn Haught totaled 10-kills and 5-digs, while Landsay Huffman tallied 5-points, with 1-ace and 3-digs. Jonayah Moeller collected 12-digs and make 2-kills, while Elizabeth McConn came off the bench to smack a service ace and bump-up a dig for all the River statistics.

  • Tigers Blanks Pilots, 3-0

The River Pilots Emily Taylor and Lacey Cordery each tallied 6-points, but it wasn’t enough to get by the Shadyside Tigers in 3-identical 13-25 sets, Sept. 16 inside RL Potts Gymnasium.

Cordery, added 9-digs, 1-kill and just as many assists, while Taylor, bumped up 6-digs to lead the River Pilots. Allison Bennett tacked on 4-points, with 1-ace, 8-digs and dished out 6-assists. Katie Straub and Hannah Raper produced 2-points, with 1-ace, 8-digs, 1-kill and 5-kills, 3-digs and 1-block, respectively.

In addition, Rilyn Haught produced 2-kills, 3-digs and 2-blocks, while Myla Ivey tacked on 2-kills, 3-digs and 2-blocks. Jonayah Moeller bumped up 2-digs for all the River statistics.

  • River wins Tri-Match

Homestanding River defeated Linsly on Wednesday night 25-22 and 25-21to win the first match of a home Tri-Match. Allison Bennett came up big for the Pilots with 18 assists, 7-digs and 5-points in the match. Katie Staub added 10 kills and 10 digs as she controlled the net play. Hannah Raper came through with 5-points and 4-kills, Emily Taylor got 7-digs, Rilyn Haught aded 5-digs, Lacey Cordry pitched in 8-digs and Landsay Huffman had 4-digs.

  • In the win 25-19, 19-25, 25-20 win over Wheeling Central to take the Tri-Match. Myla Ivey filled the stat sheet as she had 9-kills, 4-digs, and 6-points. Leading the Pilots was Bennett with 26 assists, 10 digs and 11 points. Raper had 8-kills, Cordery got 9-digs, Taylor 6-digs, McConn 6-digs, Rufener 4-points, and Straub had a huge night with 15 digs, 6-kills, and 8-points.
