Lady Pilots Even Their Record at 4-4

The River Pilots evened their season record at 4-4 with a 3-set match victory over the Bridgeport Bulldogs, 25-12, 25-19 and 25-16 Sept. 4 inside the RL Potts Gymnasium.

“The girls are growing, learning to play better as a team,” said River Head Coach Judy Curtis. “We have a younger squad, but they amaze me with their work ethic! Very good spirits. I tell them one game, one serve and one block at a time.”

Senior setter Allison Bennett recorded the teams first triple-double of the season, 25-assists, 12-points and 11-digs, while drilling 5-service aces and 1-kill to lead the way for the red-hot Lady Pilots who have now won 9-back-to-back sets in 3-consecutive matches.

Hannah Raper, paced River with 16-points, with 4-aces, while tacking on 2-kills and gathering-up a dig. Katie Straub stuffed the stat sheet, bumped up 7-digs, scored 6-points with just as many kills and rejected a hot at the net, while Katie Refener and Elizabeth McConn each tallied 4-points, with Refener knocking down 3-aces, and McConn, one.

In addition, Emily Taylor posted 3-points and 3-digs, while Jonayah Moeller smacked 2-kills, 3-digs and blocked a shot. Myla Ivey had 7-digs and smacked 6-kills, while Rilyn Haught recorded 4-kills, 2-digs and made 5-blocks. The teams Lebero, Lacey Cordery tallied 7-points, with 1-ace, bumped up 14-digs and blasted 5-back-row kills.

River Shuts-Out Martins Ferry, 3-0

The River Pilots put it all together for the second-straight day against Martins Ferry in straight sets once again by the scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-16 Sept. 3 inside the RL Potts Gymnasium.

River senior setter Allison Bennett was again feeling like it was Christmas as she wrapped up 32-gifts as in assists, while bumping up, 19-digs, scoring 11-points, with 1-service ace, and for good measure caught the Riders front line napping, drilled a kill to lead the way for the (3-4) River Pilots.

As in went in their first match with Ferry, Hannah Raper filled the stat sheet with 10-points, with 1-ace, 7-kills, 7-digs, two blocks and wrapped up a nifty assist. Katie Straub, also lit it up inside RL Potts Gymnasium, compiled 10-points, including 3-aces, a dozen kills and 4-digs, while Lacey Cordery tallied 5-points, with an ace, 2-assists, 9-digs and committed a felony with 2-kills.

In addition, Jonayah Moeller came off the bench to gather 2-assists, 2-kills and 1-dig, while Katie Refener collected 5-points with 2-aces and 2-digs. Myla Ivey was kept busy woth 8-digs, 6-kills and scored a service point, while Rilyn Haught smacked 7-kills, made 8-digs and rejected 2-shots. Emily Taylor added 2-points, while Lindsay Huffman tallied a point and a dig for all the Lady Pilots statistics.

River 3, Martins Ferry 0

The River Pilots volleyball put together their best overall match this year, beating Martins Ferry 25-19, 25-20 and 25-12 in straight sets to win the match Aug. 28 in Purple Rider territory.

The Lady Pilots senior Allison Bennett recorded a double-double, 16-points and 20-assists, while cashing in on nine service aces, and bumping up 4-digs to lead the way.

Hannah Raper filled the stat sheet with 11-points, including 5-aces, 4-assists, 3-kills, and just as many digs, while rejecting a shot. Emily Taylor laid down half of her 6-points, with aces, while compiling 6-digs and drilling.

In addition, Lacey Cordery recorded 4-points with 1-ace, 8-digs and drilled a pair of kills, while Katie “The Hammer” Straub served-up 2-points, and belted 7-kills and bumping up 4-digs. Katie Refener and Myla Evey each scored a point, while Refener provided 3-digs and 2-kills, and Ivey 7-digs and 2-kills.

Rilyn Haught had 6-kills, while Lindsay Huffman tacked on 4-digs for all the Lady Pilot stats.
