River Pilots Its Way to 2-1 Start to Season

The River Pilots volleyball team just started their volleyball season, and split their first 4-matches. Playing for Judy Curtis are in no particular order seniors, #14 Allison Bennett, #41Lacey Cordery and #1 Katie Straub. Juniors, #32 Katie Rufener, #8 Myla Ivey, #21 Elizabeth McConn, #20 Emily Taylor, #25 Lindsay Huffman and #24 Jonayah Moeller. Sophomores Janie Jakob, #5 Karlee Binni, #17 Corree Hunter, #2 Hannah Nevins and #3 Rilyn Haught. Freshmen #23 Hannah Raper, #0 Abbie Lee, #12 Ashtyn Lee, #26 Chloe Honeycutt, #11 Rylee Knight, #4 Kylie Wagnild, #22 Paige Barkes and #6 Allie Wells.

The River Pilots fell victim to the Frontier Lady Cougars, August 23 in New Matamoras 25-20, 25-22 and 25-15.

Leading the charge for the Lady Pilots was Allison Bennett, who tallied 4-points, including an ace, dished out 24 assists and bumping up 9-digs.

Hannah Raper was solid with six service points, including an ace, drilled a team-high 11-kills and compiled 7-digs. Lacey Cordery posted a team-high 14-digs, while tacking on 4-points, with 1-ace.

Katie Straub provided 13-digs and pounded 3-kills, while Myla Ivey posted 3-points, 5-kills, 2-digs and blocked 1-shot for a good all-around nice match. Emily Taylor scored 3-points, including an ace and 2-digs, while Rilyn Haught made 4-kills and pumped up 2-digs.

The River Pilots won two an lost one to open the high school volleyball season, beating Bellaire St John, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-14 and Bellaire Big Reds, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-23, but fell to Union Local also in straight sets, 8-25, 18-25 and 17-25.

In the 3-matches, River’s Allison Bennett tallied a team-high 31-points, that included 11 scoring aces, while dishing out 53-assists and collecting 27 digs to lead the way. Katie Straub also provided some nice stats, scoring 23-points, with four aces, while compiling 22-kills and 19-digs.

Emily Taylor provided 21-points, 9-aces and 11-digs for the Pilots, while teammate Lacey Cordery recorded 15-points, with 6-aces, and collected a team-high 32-digs. Myla Ivey turned in some pretty good numbers herself, scoring 9-points, with 2-aces, 14-digs, 10-kills and rejected four shots. Hannah Raper scored half of her 8-points, via service aces, while pounding 13-kills, bumping up 7-digs and blocking one shot.

Rilyn Haught was solid with 4-points, 11-kills, 5-blocks and made 4-digs, while Jonayah Moeller, blasted 3-kills, blocked a shot and collected a pair of digs.
